The 2017 MotoGP World Championship comes to an end this Sunday at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit. The Grand Prix of Valencia will be the grand finale of an exciting season with Marc Marquez and Andrea Dovizioso fighting for the title.
It will also be a very special weekend for Reale Avintia Racing, since it marks the last race of the team with Hector Barbera and Loris Baz. The Spanish rider was part of Raul Romero’s structure since 2013 and his contribution has been crucial to the growth of the project in the MotoGP class, with great results such as the Open World Championship in 2015 or last year’s ‘top ten’ in the final standings. Baz had joined the team last season and in these two years, he has left his mark with great determination, professionalism and courage.

“Valencia is my home Grand Prix and for me it’s always special to race on the Ricardo Tormo Circuit. This year, it’s even more special because it’s the last race with the team that I’ve raced with in the last five seasons and that has become my family. It will also be my last race in MotoGP and after eight years in this class I look forward to new challenges in Moto2. I have no doubt that it will be a very nice and emotional weekend, but I want to focus on working hard from the first practice on Friday to get ready for Sunday’s race. I want to finish this stage of my career with a good result for my team, for me and for all the sponsors that have been supporting us always. ”

“It’s going to be a special weekend. It will be my last MotoGP race for now, before starting another chapter in my career. Valencia is also special for the team, it’s their home race and that is why I will try to give my best. We will push at the maximum from Friday and our goal is to finish in the ‘top ten’. This goal has become more difficult to achieve with every race, because all the factories improved a lot, especially KTM and Suzuki. But we’ll try. I would like to get a good result to conclude my two-year-partnership with the team on a high note. I have a house near the circuit, so it’s also like a home Grand Prix for me, and I hope I can enjoy this last race. “

El Campeonato del Mundo de MotoGP 2017 llega a su fin este domingo en el Circuito Ricardo Tormo de la Comunidad Valenciana. El Gran Premio de Valencia podrá el broche final a una temporada apasionante en la que Marc Márquez y Andrea Dovizioso llegan a la última cita jugándose el título.

Para el Reale Avintia Racing también será un fin de semana muy especial porque será la última carrera con el equipo para Héctor Barberá y Loris Baz. El español lleva en la estructura de Raúl Romero desde 2013 y su aportación ha sido clave en el crecimiento del proyecto en MotoGP, con logros como el título de Campeón del Mundo Open en 2015 o el ‘top diez’ en la clasificación final de 2016. Baz llegó al equipo la pasada temporada y en estos dos años ha dejado huella con su gran determinación, profesionalidad y coraje.

“Valencia es mi casa y para mí es siempre especial correr en el Circuito Ricardo Tormo. Pero este año todavía va a ser más especial porque será la última carrera con el equipo que he competido en las cinco últimas temporadas y que para mí es como una familia. Además será mi última carrera en MotoGP porque tras ocho años en esta categoría la próxima temporada buscaré nuevos retos en Moto2. No tengo dudas de que va a ser un fin de semana muy bonito y cargado de emociones. Pero yo quiero concentrarme en trabajar duro desde el viernes para llegar preparado a la carrera del domingo. Quiero terminar esta etapa con un buen resultado para mi equipo, para mí y para todos los patrocinadores que nunca han dejado de apoyarnos.”

“Va a ser un fin de semana especial. Será mi última carrera en MotoGP, de momento, antes de comenzar otro capítulo en mi carrera deportiva. Valencia también es siempre especial para el equipo, es la carrera de casa y por eso intentaré hacer la mejor carrera que pueda. Saldremos a por todas desde el viernes y el objetivo será el ‘top diez’. Ahora es más complicado porque todas las fábricas han mejorado mucho, especialmente KTM y Suzuki, por lo que es complicado, pero lo intentaremos. Me gustaría conseguir un buen resultado para terminar bien con el equipo estos dos años. Tengo una casa cerca del circuito, así que también es un poco como un Gran Premio de casa para mí, por eso espero poder disfrutar esta última carrera.”

Tot i que el sol ha brillat durant tot el matí al circuit de Sepang, poc abans de formar-se la graella de sortida del Gran Premi de Malàisia ha començat a ploure amb força. Els mecànics del Reale Avintia Racing han hagut de treballar contra rellotge per fer les motos d’aigua, mentre que els pilots, Héctor Barberá i Loris Baz, es preguntaven si les males sensacions de divendres en mullat es tornarien a repetir.

Baz ho ha vist clar en la volta de formació i ha muntat el compost més tou de Michelin darrere, tot i saber que podria no aguantar tota la cursa. Però el francès ha pres el risc i li ha sortit bé, almenys al principi de carrera, on ha protagonitzat una gran remuntada que l’ha portat des de la 17ª posició a la graella a la novena a la primera volta Després d’una bonica lluita amb Valentino Rossi i Àlex Rins, el pilot del Reale Avintia Racing ha arribat fins a la sisena posició, però en la sisena volta ha forçat massa i s’ha anat a terra.

El seu company Héctor Barberá no ha arriscat, ha preferit sortir amb el compost mitjà, però no ha tingut bon ‘grip’ en cap de les 20 voltes i finalment ha acabat sumant dos punts després de creuar la meta 14º.

“Ha estat una cursa molt complicada, des de l’inici he anat patit perquè he triat malament el pneumàtic i era com pilotar sobre gel. He decidit sortir amb el pneumàtic dur, el mateix que vaig fer servir l’any passat quan vaig acabar quart, però aquest cop ha estat impossible anar ràpid. Crec que avui la pista estava per anar amb el compost més tou i ja en la volta d’alineació he vist que la moto anava molt dura. Durant tota la cursa he tingut molt males sensacions i m’he concentrat en acabar.Es una llàstima, perquè avui teníem una bona oportunitat per fer un bon resultat, però ho deixem per a València, que és l’última del campionat, a casa i també serà la meva última cursa amb el meu equip.”

“La cursa ha estat finalment en pluja i arribant a la graella amb el pneumàtic dur no tenia res de ‘feeling’, igual que divendres. Així que hem decidit sortir amb la tova, encara que sabíem que era complicat que aguantés fins al final i que s’anava a escalfar molt. Però era el risc que hem pres per almenys fer unes voltes amb confiança, atacar i després administrar l’avantatge fins al final. En la volta d’escalfament he vist ràpidament que la goma funcionava i ha anat bé. He remuntat un munt de llocs en la primera volta, fins al novè crec, i m’ho he passat molt bé lluitant amb tots. Com a mínim una vegada a la vida he pogut lluitar braç a braç contra Rossi… Ha estat genial! Després el pneumàtic s’ha escalfat i he forçat molt de davant i he comès un errada. He entrat molt ràpid en un revolt i per poder frenar més he baixat una marxa i he caigut. És una llàstima, però estic satisfet, perquè era això o aguantar tota la cursa i acabar últim.”

The sun was shining all morning at the Sepang International Circuit, but just before the MotoGP Malaysian Grand Prix was about to start, the forecasted rainstorms arrived. The mechanics of Reale Avintia Racing had to work against the clock to change the settings for a wet race, while the riders, Hector Barbera and Loris Baz, wondered if the bad feelings of Friday in the wet would come back again.

Baz made up his mind in the sighting lap and switched to the Michelin’s softer compound of the rear tyre, even though he knew that it would not last the whole race. But the Frenchman took the risk and it paid off, at least at the beginning of the race, where he had a great comeback that took him from 17th position on the grid to the ninth in the first lap. After a good fight with Valentino Rossi and Álex Rins, the Reale Avintia Racing rider was sixth, but on the sixth lap of the race he pushed the front too much and crashed.

His teammate Héctor Barberá tried to play it safe and preferred to start with the medium rear compound, but was left with not enough grip during the entire 20-lap race. He nevertheless managed to stay on two wheels and finally scored two points with his 14^th position.

The 2017 MotoGP World Championship concludes at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit, where the Valencia Grand Prix will take place in two weeks time.

“It was a very difficult race. From the beginning, I struggled because I made the wrong tyre selection and it was like riding on ice. I decided to start with the harder tyre, the same one I used last year when I finished fourth here, but this time it was impossible to go fast. I think the track today just suited the soft compound. I also realised as early as in the warm-up lap that the bike was very stiff. During the whole race, I had very bad feeling and I just focused on finishing the race. It’s a shame, because we had a good chance to make a good result today. Now we left it for Valencia, which is the last race of the championship, my home race and also the last race with my team.”

“Finally we had a wet race and coming onto the grid with the hard rear tyre, I had no feeling, like on Friday. That’s why we decided to race with the soft, although we knew that it would be difficult to save the tyre until the end as it likely to overheat. But we took the risk and I thought that I would be able to do a few laps with confidence, attack and then manage the advantage until the end. In the warm-up lap I saw immediately that the rubber was working really well. I had a great comeback in the first lap, up to ninth place, and I had a great time battling with everyone. At least once in my life I have been able to fight side by side with Rossi…it was great! Then the tyre got very hot and I pushed hard with the front and made a mistake. I got into a corner very fast and in order to slow down more, I downshifted and then I crashed. It’s a shame, but I’m still satisfied, because it was either this or finish in the last place, struggling for all the race. “

A pesar de que el sol ha brillado durante toda la mañana en el circuito de Sepang, poco antes de formarse la parrilla de salida del Gran Premio de Malasia ha comenzado a llover con fuerza. Su compañero Héctor Barberá no ha arriesgado, ha preferido salir con el compuesto medio, pero no ha tenido buen ‘grip’ en ninguna de las 20 vueltas y finalmente ha terminado sumando dos puntos tras cruzar la meta 14º.

El Campeonato del Mundo 2017 llegará a su fin dentro de dos semanas en el Circuito Ricardo Tormo, donde tendrá lugar el Gran Premio de la Comunidad Valenciana.

“Ha sido una carrera muy complicada, desde el inicio he ido sufrido porque he elegido mal el neumático y era como pilotar sobre hielo. He decidido salir con el neumático duro, el mismo que usé el año pasado cuando terminé cuarto, pero esta vez ha sido imposible ir rápido. Creo que hoy la pista estaba para ir con el compuesto más blando y ya en la vuelta de alineación he visto que la moto iba muy dura. Durante toda la carrera he tenido muy malas sensaciones y me he concentrado en terminar. Es una lástima, porque hoy teníamos una buena oportunidad para hacer un buen resultado, pero lo dejamos para Valencia, que es la última del campeonato, en casa y también será mi última carrera con mi equipo.”

“La carrera ha sido finalmente en lluvia y llegando a la parrilla con el neumático duro no tenía nada de ‘feeling’, igual que el viernes. Así que hemos decidido salir con la blanda, aunque sabíamos que era complicado que aguantara hasta el final y que se iba a calentar mucho. Pero era el riesgo que hemos tomado para al menos hacer unas vueltas con confianza, atacar y luego administrar la ventaja hasta el final. En la vuelta de calentamiento he visto de inmediato que la goma funcionaba y ha ido bien. He remontado un montón de puestos en la primera vuelta, hasta el noveno creo, y me lo he pasado en grande peleando con todos. Al menos una vez en mi vida he podido luchar codo con codo contra Rossi… ¡Ha sido genial! Después el neumático se ha calentado y he forzado mucho de delante y he cometido un error. He entrado muy rápido en una curva y para frenar más he bajado una marcha y me he caído. Es una pena, pero estoy satisfecho, porque era esto o aguantar toda la carrera y acabar último.”

Los pilotos del equipo Reale Avintia Racing, Loris Baz y Héctor Barberá, han terminado 17º y 20º, respectivamente, en los entrenamientos cronometrados para el Gran Premio de Malasia disputados hoy bajo un calor asfixiante en el Circuito Internacional de Sepang.

Loris Baz ha luchado con todas sus fuerzas en la Q1 y en su primer ataque al crono ha mejorado su mejor vuelta de ayer en más de un 1.4 segundos. Después venía aún más fuerte y con opciones de pasar a la Q2, pero ha forzado demasiado y ha sufrido una caída tras perder la rueda delantera de su Ducati.

Para Héctor Barberá ha sido al contrario. El español, que ayer en seco logró terminar octavo, no ha conseguido bajar sus tiempos en la Q1 y mañana saldrá desde la penúltima línea de la parrilla. Lo más positivo es que el ritmo de carrera no es malo y confía en poder remontar para sumar algunos puntos.

“Hoy de nuevo ha sido complicado. Desde ayer vimos que iba a ser difícil y nos costó mucho en seco y en mojado, no hemos encontrado la manera de hacer la moto competitiva con neumáticos gastados y tenemos que buscar una solución. Con neumáticos nuevos no ha ido mal, he hecho una vuelta buena al principio de los cronometrados. Después tenía una buena rueda con Álex (Rins) y creo que podría haber pasado con él a la Q2, pero me he ido un poco largo en una curva y al frenar un poco más me he ido al suelo. Es una pena, porque la vuelta era muy buena. Aunque siendo sincero lo que cuenta es la carrera y todavía no estamos preparados. Espero que no llueva porque ayer fue un desastre.”

“Sepang es un circuito donde rodamos mucho y donde contamos con buenas referencias. Habitualmente suelo ir rápido en esta pista, pero hoy me ha costado mucho. Se ha repetido un poco la tónica de toda la temporada, empiezo bien el viernes y después es como si chocara contra un muro y no puedo mejorar. Hoy hemos hecho un cambio grande en la moto y hemos mejorado el ‘chatter’, pero hemos perdido en otros aspectos y tenemos que buscar otra solución. Mañana parece que dan lluvia para la carrera, el año pasado en mojado acabé cuarto, pero este año también nos está costando. A ver cómo hace mañana y sea en seco o en mojado intentaré dar lo mejor.”

Els pilots de l’equip Reale Avintia Racing, Loris Baz i Héctor Barberá, han acabat 17è i 20è, respectivament, en els entrenaments cronometrats per al Gran Premi de Malàisia disputats avui sota una calor asfixiant en el Circuit Internacional de Sepang.

Loris Baz ha lluitat amb totes les seves forces a la Q1 i en el seu primer atac al crono ha millorat la seva millor volta d’ahir a més d’un 1.4 segons. Després venia encara més fort i amb opcions de passar a la Q2, però ha forçat massa i ha patit una caiguda després de perdre la roda davantera de la seva Ducati.

Per Héctor Barberá ha estat al contrari. L’espanyol, que ahir en sec va aconseguir acabar vuitè, no ha aconseguit baixar els seus temps a la Q1 i demà sortirà des de la penúltima línia de la graella. El més positiu és que el ritme de carrera no és dolent i confia a poder remuntar per sumar alguns punts.

“Avui de nou ha estat complicat. Des d’ahir vam veure que seria difícil i ens va costar molt en sec i en mullat, no hem trobat la manera de fer la moto competitiva amb pneumàtics gastats i hem de buscar una solució. Amb pneumàtics nous no ha anat malament, he fet una volta bona al principi dels cronometrats. Després tenia una bona roda amb Àlex (Rins) i crec que podria haver passat amb ell a la Q2, però m’he anat una mica llarg en un revolt i en frenar una mica més m’he anat a terra. Es una pena, perquè la volta era molt bona. Encara que sent sincer el que compta és la carrera i encara no estem preparats. Espero que no plogui perquè ahir va ser un desastre.”

“Sepang és un circuit on vam rodar molt i on comptem amb bones referències. Habitualment sòl anar ràpid en aquesta pista, però avui m’ha costat molt. S’ha repetit una mica la tònica de tota la temporada, començo bé el divendres i després és com si xoqués contra un mur i no puc millorar. Avui hem fet un canvi gran en la moto i hem millorat el ‘chatter’, però hem perdut en altres aspectes i hem de buscar una altra solució. Demà sembla que donen pluja per a la carrera, el any passat en mullat vaig acabar quart, però aquest any també ens està costant. A veure com fa demà i sigui en sec o en mullat intentaré donar el millor. “

Once again the weather played a crucial role on the opening day of practice for the Malaysian Gran Prix at the Sepang circuit. Just before FP1, a light shower left the track too damp to use slicks and not wet enough to use Michelin’s rain tyres. In the afternoon, torrential rain hit Sepang and the session was held in full wet conditions. Barbera started with an early crash in the last corner, when Iannone, trying to get towed by Viñales, got inside and left Hector without space. Trying to avoid a collision with the Italian, the Spaniard went straight, touching the Yamaha rider and crashing out. He went back on track and he finished 20^th, without ever finding the feeling from last year, when he was fourth in the race,.

For Loris Baz, the wet session was like a nightmare. The Frenchman wasn’t able to find the feeling to push and although he tried everything with his crew to improve, nothing worked. He was last and far away from his usual performance in wet conditions.

“It was a strange first day. In the morning, the feeling in dry conditions was very good, despite the chatter. I think the three days of testing we did in the winter were really useful for us, as the bike is the same and the settings have worked well from the start. But this afternoon in wet conditions, we had no feeling at all. As soon as I started, I crashed and then I switched to my second bike, which didn’t give me good feelings either. We will see what the weather brings tomorrow. We are okay in dry conditions, but we must improve in the rain, because the feeling in wet conditions wasn’t good today and it’s likely the race on Sunday will be wet again.”

“I’m not happy about how things went on the first day and I don’t really find the reason. In the winter testm we were much better, but nothing worked today. In dry conditions, things were more or less okay, but this afternoon with the rain, we ran into a complete disaster. I had no grip on the rear and I had big moments in every corner. We have to analyze with Michelin what is going on, because the feeling is not good at all. I’m six seconds slower than in last year’s race. Since rain ist forecasted for the race on Sunday, we need to improve.”

Reale Avintia Racing riders Loris Baz and Hector Barbera qualified in 17^th and 20^th place for tomorrow’s 20-lap Malaysian Grand Prix, in baking hot conditions at the Sepang International Circuit today.

Loris Baz did his best in Q1 and in his first time attack he managed to improve his best lap time from yesterday by 1.4s. After that he was getting even faster and had realistic options for a place in Q2, but he pushed the front of his Ducati too much and crashed out.

Things went the opposite way for his teammate Hector Barbera. The Spaniard, who was eighth fastest yesterday in dry conditions, was unable to improve his pace in Q1 and tomorrow he will start the race from the penultimate row of the grid. The only positive thing today was his race pace, so he hopes to be able to recover and score some championship points.

“Today was another tough day for us. We knew from yesterday that it was going to be hard, because we struggled in dry and wet conditions and we didn’t manage to make our bike competitive with used tyres. So we need to find a solution before the race. With new tyres, the pace is not so bad, I was able to do one fast lap at the beginning of qualifying. Then I had a great opportunity following Alex (Rins), but I went long in one corner, was deeper on the brakes than usual and crashed. It is a shame because the lap was really fast. But to be honest, the most important thing is the race and we are not ready yet. I pray for a dry race, because the wet conditions yesterday were a disaster for us.”

“Sepang is a circuit where we tested a lot and where we have good references. I’m usually fast here, but today it was really tough. It was the same story of the whole season so far: I’m fast on Friday, but then I hit a wall and it’s impossible to go faster. Today we made a big change on the bike set-up and we improved the chatter issues, but we lost in other areas, so we need to find a balance. Tomorrow the race could be wet, last year I was fourth in wet conditions, but yesterday we also struggled in the rain. We will see what the weather brings tomorrow, but dry or wet I’ll give my best to get a good result.”

Una vez más la climatología ha vuelto a ser protagonista en la primera jornada de entrenamientos libres para el Gran Premio de Malasia en el circuito de Sepang. Justo antes de empezar el FP1 una pequeña tormenta ha dejado la pista lo bastante mojada para no poder usar slicks y tampoco los neumáticos de agua de Michelin. Pero al final la pista se ha secado y el piloto del equipo Reale Avintia Racing, Héctor Barberá ha marcado una vuelta rápida en 2’01.147 que le ha permitido colocarse octavo.

Su compañero Loris Baz no ha podido rodar tan rápido y ha terminado la primera sesión 16º a 1.7s del más rápido.

Por la tarde la sesión se ha disputado con el asfalto mojado después de que una lluvia torrencial cayera en Sepang. Barberá ha comenzado con una caída en la última curva cuando Iannone, tratando de buscar la rueda de Viñales le ha dejado sin espacio y para evitar impactar con el italiano Barberá se ha ido recto rozando al de Yamaha y terminando en la grava. Después ha vuelto a salir, pero no ha logrado encontrar las sensaciones que el año pasado le llevaron hasta el cuarto puesto en la carrera y ha terminado 20º.

Para Loris Baz la sesión en mojado ha sido un desastre. El francés no encuentra el ‘feeling’ para apretar en agua y, a pesar de probarlo todo, nada ha mejorado. Baz ha terminado último y lejos del nivel que habitualmente ha mostrado en estas condiciones.

“Ha sido un primer día un poco extraño porque por la mañana las sensaciones han sido muy buenas en seco, a pesar de seguir sufriendo algo de ‘chatter’, pero creo que los tres días de test que hicimos en la pretemporada nos están sirviendo mucho, porque la moto es la misma y los reglajes han funcionado bien desde el principio. Pero esta tarde con agua no han ido bien las cosas. Nada más empezar me ha caído y luego he salido con la otra moto pero no me he encontrado bien. A ver cómo hace mañana porque creemos que por la hora la carrera del domingo puede ser en agua y las sensaciones no han sido muy buenas. En seco más o menos estamos bien, nos queda mejorar en agua.”

“No estoy nada contento de cómo ha ido el primer día y la verdad es que no encuentro el motivo. En la pretemporada fuimos mucho mejor, pero hoy nada ha funcionado. En seco esta mañana más o menos me he encontrado bien, pero por la tarde en agua ha sido un desastre. No tengo nada de agarre detrás y en cada frenada la moto quiere tirarme. Tenemos que ver bien con Michelin qué es lo que pasa porque las sensaciones no son nada buenas. Hoy he ido completamente al máximo pero he rodado seis segundos más lento que en la carrera del año pasado. El domingo apunta a que la carrera será en mojado, así que tenemos que mejorar como sea para estar preparados.”
