Positive start of the Italian Grand Prix for Hector Barbera: The Reale Avintia Racing rider holds eighth place in the combined time sheets after the first two practice sessions of the weekend. In the morning, Barbera felt fast immediately riding his Ducati Desmosedici GP16 and he finished the session with the fifth fastest lap time. In the afternoon, in much warmer weather conditions, he finished sixth, lapping just two thousandths of a second slower than in the morning. Barbera was the fastest on Mugello’s main straight today, with a top speed of 352.2 km/h. All in all, he had a strong start of the weekend after a tough first part of the season.

Things went the opposite way for Loris Baz, who struggled more during the first day. The 24-year-old French rider suffered to get the best out of the new Michelin front tyres. But he is confident that working hard with his team, they will be able to find a solution in their quest to conquer the best possible spot on the grid.

“I’m very happy because we didn’t start like this since long time ago. The test at Jerez showed us the way, then we were unlucky at Le Mans, but we completed another crucial test in Barcelona before coming here and today we saw the results. The previous five races have been the toughest of my career, because I knew that I had the package and the team to be fighting at the front. I could see how the other riders using my bike were faster than me, but I didn’t have the feeling to push and it was really difficult. This bike was born with winglets, so from Jerez we just concentrated on putting more weight on the front and we could see the improvement every time I was on track. I was sure that I am still capable of riding a bike and that’s the reason why my team always supported me. So I want to say a big thank you, because it finally seems that we took the right direction. We have to build the momentum tomorrow and battle for Q2, and then give our best in qualifying.”

“It was a difficult day for me. We still have to work to set up the bike with the new front tyre, because although I was happy with my performance at the test in Barcelona, today I struggled a lot with chatter and also the front is pushing in every corner. The only positive thing is that we improved from the morning to the afternoon, so I hope we can go even further tomorrow and get the good feelings I had with the previous front tyre. Right now I’m not thinking about Q2, I’m focused on improving, because right now the main thing is to get the best package for the race on Sunday.”

El Gran Premio de Italia ha comenzado de forma positiva para Héctor Barberá, con el piloto del Reale Avintia Racing octavo en la combinada de tiempos tras las dos primeras sesiones de entrenamientos libres del fin de semana. Por la mañana Barberá ha encontrado rápidamente las sensaciones con su Ducati Desmosedici GP16 y ha terminado la sesión con el quinto mejor tiempo. Por la tarde con más calor, ha sido sexto, con un tiempo solo dos milésimas de segundo más lento que el de la mañana. El piloto del Reale Avintia ha sido el más rápido en la recta principal de Mugello, con una velocidad máxima de 352.2 km/h. Pero lo más importante es que ha comenzado el fin de semana con buen pie después de un inicio de campeonato muy complicado.

Para Loris Baz el primer día en Italia ha sido algo más difícil. El piloto francés de 24 años ha tenido problemas para sacar el máximo de los nuevos neumáticos delanteros de Michelin, pero trabajando con su equipo espera poder encontrar mañana una solución que le permita mejorar su posición en la parrilla.

“Estoy muy contento porque hacía mucho tiempo que no empezábamos bien un fin de semana. En el test de Jerez ya vimos la luz, en Le Mans no pudimos confirmarlo, pero los entrenamientos que hicimos en Barcelona antes de llegar aquí fueron clave. Han sido las cinco carreras más difíciles de mi vida, porque sé que tengo los medios para estar delante y los pilotos que llevan mi moto estaban más arriba, pero no tenía sensaciones buenas y así era muy difícil. Esta moto nació para ir con alas, por eso hemos trabajado en cargar más peso delante y los resultados se están viendo. Yo tenía claro que no se me había olvidado pilotar y también mi equipo, por eso no han dejado de apoyarme y parece que ya hemos encontrado el camino. Mañana hay que aprovechar el momento, tratar de pasar a la Q2 y darlo todo para salir lo más arriba posible.”

“Ha sido un día un poco complicado. Con los nuevos neumáticos todavía tenemos que trabajar en la puesta a punto, porque aunque en Barcelona nos fue mejor, aquí tenemos mucho ‘chatter’ y la moto empuja mucho la parte delantera. Pero lo positivo es que hemos dado un paso de la mañana a la tarde y las sensaciones han mejorado poco a poco. Estamos en el buen camino y mañana espero poder encontrar el ‘feeling’ que tenía con el otro neumático. De momento no pienso en la Q2, solo en mejorar, porque lo más importante ahora mismo es tener el trabajo hecho para la carrera del domingo.”

Este fin de semana comienza una de las fases más intensas de la temporada con cuatro carreras en cinco semanas. El Gran Premio de Italia será el primero y los pilotos del Reale Avintia Racing, Héctor Barberá y Loris Baz, llegan muy motivados después del test en Barcelona, donde ambos pilotos mejoraron las sensaciones con sus Ducati y con los neumáticos delanteros que Michelin estrenará en Mugello este fin de semana.

Para Barberá las primeras carreras del año no han estado a la altura de sus expectativas, pero el piloto español espera que el Gran Premio de Italia sea un punto de inflexión en la temporada.

Su compañero en el Reale Avintia Loris Baz tiene claro que conseguir un buen resultado el domingo será crucial para comenzar con buen pie esta fase de carreras en la que el Campeonato del Mundo de MotoGP pasará por Mugello, Barcelona, Assen y Sachsenring en tan solo cinco semanas.

“Vamos a Mugello con muchas ganas. El test que hicimos la semana pasada en Barcelona fue muy positivo y llegamos con la motivación a tope. El inicio del campeonato ha sido muy complicado para nosotros, pero creo que hemos encontrado el camino y estoy deseando llegar a Mugello para poder comprobarlo. Vamos a hacer como que estas cinco primeras carreras solo han sido un mal sueño y a empezar desde cero este fin de semana en un circuito que me gusta mucho.”

“Ya empieza la parte más seria de la temporada, con un mes que tenemos por delante con cuatro carreras en cinco semanas. Va a ser un mes muy importante y lo bueno para nosotros es que estamos en un gran momento y tenemos buen ‘feeling’ con la moto. Hay que seguir así trabajando bien y empezando el viernes en Mugello para poner a punto la moto para la carrera. Es un circuito que me gusta y siempre va bien a la Ducati, así que espero que podamos estar lo más arriba posible y sumar puntos.”

Aquest cap de setmana comença una de les fases més intenses de la temporada amb quatre carreres en cinc setmanes. El Gran Premi d’Itàlia serà el primer i els pilots del Reale Avintia Racing, Héctor Barberá i Loris Baz, arriben molt motivats després del test a Barcelona, on tots dos pilots van millorar les sensacions amb les seves Ducati i amb els pneumàtics davanters que Michelin s’estrenarà a Mugello aquest cap de setmana.

Per a Barberá les primeres carreres de l’any no han estat a l’altura de les seves expectatives, però el pilot espanyol espera que el Gran Premi d’Itàlia sigui un punt d’inflexió en la temporada.

El seu company al Reale Avintia Loris Baz té clar que aconseguir un bon resultat diumenge serà crucial per començar amb bon peu aquesta fase de carreres en què el Campionat del Món de MotoGP passarà per Mugello, Barcelona, Assen i Sachsenring en tan sols cinc setmanes.

“Anem a Mugello amb moltes ganes. El test que vam fer la setmana passada a Barcelona va ser molt positiu i vam arribar amb la motivació al màxim. L’inici del campionat ha estat molt complicat per a nosaltres, però crec que hem trobat el camí i estic desitjant arribar a Mugello per poder comprovar-ho. Anem a fer com que aquestes cinc primeres carreres només han estat un mal son i ara toca començar de zero aquest cap de setmana en un circuit que m’agrada molt.”

“Ja comença la part més seriosa de la temporada, amb un mes que tenim per davant amb quatre carreres en cinc setmanes. Serà un mes molt important i el que és bo per a nosaltres és que estem en un gran moment i tenim bon ‘feeling’ amb la moto. Cal seguir així treballant bé i començant el divendres a Mugello per posar a punt la moto per a la carrera. És un circuit que m’agrada i sempre va bé a la Ducati, així que espero que puguem estar el més amunt possible i sumar punts. “

Reale Avintia Racing riders completed a positive two-day-test at the modified Barcelona-Catalunya Circuit today. Hector Barbera and Loris Baz were able to test again the new Michelin front tyres that will be introduced in the championship from the next round, and both riders declared them selves satisfied with these two testing days in Barcelona.

Barbera continued working on his front feeling and he confirmed the positive feeling he had in the three laps he was able to complete during last Sunday race at Le Mans. The Spanish rider did a race simulation today and he finished the test with a best lap time of 1’44.469, only 0.4s from Jorge Lorenzo, the fastest Ducati at Montmelo today.

Loris Baz did 135 laps over the two days and he tried different solutions that during a race weekend are impossible to evaluate. Some of those tests were positive and, above all, the French rider was able to get the feeling with the new Michein front tyre. Baz also did a race simulation with positive conclusions.

This test was useful because the riders had the chance to work towards the Calatan Gran Prix that will take place at this track in just 16 days time. But before, the Reale Avintia Racing riders will head Tuscany, for the Italian Grand Prix in Mugello.

“This two days of testing in Barcelona were really important because I feel very strong riding my bike. At Jerez we did a big step forward, but we were not able to confirm at Le Mans due to the weather conditions over the weekend and the problem we suffered during the race. But here at Barcelona I felt good immediately with the bike and we improved even more my feeling with the front. We tested once again the new Michelin front and although the allocation is not the best for the race, we got a lot of positive information. Now we have to train hard for Mugello, where I hope to show that we are back on the pace.”

“It was a really positive test and we were able to test many stuff on the bike. Some of the test worked out, some not too much, but would be useful at other circuits. Overall it was a good test for us. It was also positive for Michelin as they were able to get information to keep working towards the race here at Barcelona. I got a good feeling with the new front and this is also a big positive. Today we completed a race simulation and my pace was okay. So I leave the test very happy. Now we have to recharge batteries before we’ll have four races in five weeks.”

MotoGP racing enters one of the most intense phases of the season with four races in five weeks. The Italian Grand Prix this weekend is the first of these four and Reale Avintia Racing riders Hector Barbera and Loris Baz head to Mugello highly motivated following an encouraging test at Barcelona. On the Spanish track, both riders improved the feeling with their Ducati and the new Michelin front tyres that will officially be introduced this weekend in Mugello.

The first races of the year didn’t meet the expectations of Barberá, but the Spanish riders hopes that the Italian Grand Prix will be a turning point for the better.

His Reale Avintia teammate Loris Baz also hopes for a good result on Sunday, because this would mean a head-start into this most challenging part of this year’s calendar in which the MotoGP World Championship tours to Mugello, Barcelona, Assen and Sachsenring in just five weeks.

“We head to Mugello in a confident mood. Our test last week at Barcelona was really positive which was a big boost to my motivation. The start of the season has been really tough for us, but I believe that we finally found the right way, and I look forward to confirm our progress at Mugello. The first five races were like a nightmare, and now we have to start from zero on a track I love.”

“The most serious part of the season starts at Mugello, as we have four races in just five weeks. This will be a crucial month, but we have all reasons to be optimistic because things are going well and we have a good feeling with the bike. Our plan for Mugello is to maintain our momentum and to keep working well from the first pracice session on Friday in order to find the best settings for the race as early as possible. I like the circuit and Mugello is always good for Ducati, so I hope to get a strong result and bring home some championship points.”

Héctor Barberá i Loris Baz han tingut l’oportunitat de treballar amb els nous pneumàtics davanters que Michelin introduirà en el campionat des de la pròxima carrera i tots dos han acabat molt satisfets després de les dues jornades d’entrenaments a Barcelona.

Barberá ha seguit treballant en millorar les seves sensacions amb el tren davanter de la seva Ducati i ha pogut confirmar el bon ‘feeling’ que va tenir el passat diumenge, a les poques voltes que va poder donar a Le Mans. El pilot valencià ha completat avui un simulacre de carrera i acabat el test amb un temps de 1’44.469, a només quatre dècimes de Jorge Lorenzo, el pilot més ràpid de Ducati a Montmeló.

Loris Baz ha donat moltes voltes, 135 en els dos dies, i ha treballat provant solucions que durant un cap de setmana de carreres no és possible avaluar. Moltes d’aquestes proves han tingut un resultat positiu i, el millor de tot, és que el francès ha trobat bones sensacions amb el nou pneumàtic davanter de Michelin. Baz també ha realitzat un simulacre amb resultats molt positius.

Aquest test ha servit per preparar el Gran Premi de Catalunya, que tindrà lloc dins de 16 dies en aquest mateix escenari. Però els pilots de l’equip Reale Avintia Racing primer viatjaran a la Toscana, per disputar el Gran Premi d’Itàlia a Mugello.

“Han estat dos dies molt importants i m’he trobat cada vegada més còmode amb la moto. A Jerez vam fer un pas endavant, però a França, amb les condicions i el problema en carrera no vam poder confirmar-ho. Però aquí m’he trobat bé de seguida i hem millorat encara més. Hem pogut provar una altra vegada el pneumàtic davanter nou de Michelin, i encara que potser no eren els més adequats, les conclusions han estat molt bones. Ara cal preparar-se bé per Mugello i poder demostrar que tornem a ser ràpids.”

“El test ha estat molt positiu i hem pogut provar moltes coses a la moto. Algunes han anat bé, altres no, però que podrien funcionar en altres circuits, però en general ha estat un bon test. També crec que ha estat bo positiu per a Michelin, perquè han pogut veure que cal treballar una mica en els pneumàtics per a la carrera. Amb el davanter nou he aconseguit tenir bones sensacions i avui hem fet un simulacre de carrera que ha anat molt bé. Hem donat moltes voltes i em vaig content. Ara toca agafar forces per al mes de carreres que tenim per davant.”

“Han sido dos días muy importantes y me he encontrado cada vez más cómodo con la moto. En Jerez dimos un paso adelante, pero en Francia, con las condiciones y el problema en carrera no pudimos confirmarlo. Pero aquí me he encontrado bien enseguida y hemos mejorado todavía más. Hemos podido probar otra vez el neumático delantero nuevo de Michelin, y aunque  quizás no eran los más adecuados, las conclusiones han sido muy buenas. Ahora hay que prepararse bien para Mugello y poder demostrar que volvemos a ser rápidos.”

“El test ha sido muy positivo y hemos podido probar muchas cosas en la moto. Algunas han ido bien, otras no, pero que podrían funcionar en otros circuitos, pero en general ha sido un buen test. También creo que ha sido bueno positivo para Michelin, porque han podido ver que hay que trabajar un poco en los neumáticos para la carrera. Con el delantero nuevo he conseguido tener buenas sensaciones y hoy hemos hecho un simulacro de carrera que ha ido muy bien. Hemos dado muchas vueltas y me voy contento. Ahora toca coger fuerzas para el mes de carreras que tenemos por delante.”

Reale Avintia Racing riders had mixed fortunes today at the French Grand Prix on the legendary Le Mans circuit. Loris Baz finished his home race in a fantastic ninth place after a really tough race in which only 15 of 23 MotoGP riders crossed the chequered flag. The local hero knew before the start that it would be crucial to finish the race today and even though he didn’t find a solution for the issues with the front end feeling on his Ducati Desmosedici GP15, he got the best out of his package to achieve a top 10 finish.

Following a successful warm-up session, Hector Barbera did a great start from the seventh row of the grid, with the Reale Avintia Spanish rider gaining several places. He was in 15^th place after three laps, but his Ducati stopped at the beginning of lap four due to a mechanical issue. But despite this bad luck, the most important thing today is that the feeling with the front end definitely has improved.

Barbera and Baz will now head to Barcelona for a two-day test, where they will work with the new front tyres that Michelin will include in their allocation from the next race. They will also concentrate on refining their Ducati’s set-up in order to get strong ahead of Mugello, one of the most favourable tracks for the Italian bikes.

“We knew before the start that the key today was to bring the bike back to the garage. We were not able to solve the front end issues during the warm-up. But I made a good start and I tried to keep the best possible pace without making mistakes. I lost some time at the beginning trying to overtake Pol (Espargaro) because he was slower than me, but he was strong on the brakes and the KTM is quite good in acceleration. Once I passed him, I concentrated on keeping my pace and I was able to catch Iannone. We overtook each other several times and at the last pass, we both went wide. I’m happy with these seven points because we scored them on a circuit that is difficult for us. I leave this race satisfied; you can always do better, but today it was important to finish the race and score points.”

“We were unlucky today. We think that something broke inside the engine. I only was able to complete three laps, so it is hard to get conclusions from this race. On the bright side, I was a little bit more aggressive at the start and I was able to gain some places, which is something we can’t do very often. After that I could pass some more riders, but in the fourth lap my engine stopped on the main straight. I also confirmed during the warm-up and during the few laps in the race that my feeling in dry conditions is much better now. During the test at Jerez we made a big step and now I can push the front. It’s just a shame that the results don’t reflect our progress yet. Now we head to Barcelona where I hope to improve my feeling with the front even more and where I want to get ready for Mugello.”
