Avintia Esponsorama Racing and Xavier Cardelús join forces for the next MotoE 2020 World Cup. It will be the first time that an Andorran rider and team are together in a Motorcycling World Championship. The young rider joins the ranks of the team as a team-mate of the Brazilian Eric Granado.

Xavier Cardelús, who is only 21 years old, has already accumulated a certain amount of experience on the circuits. Currently, he has been competing in the 2019 season of the Moto2 World Championship with Ángel Nieto Team, during 2018 he completed a total of 13 races in the intermediate category, 7 with Team Stylobike and the remaining 6 with the Marinelli Snipers Team, in 2017 he participated in the SuperSport World Championship and in 2015 he competed in the FIM CEV Moto2 European Championship.

For the 2020 World Championship, Cardelús will face a new challenge in his professional career with Avintia Esponsorama Racing making his debut in the MotoE World Cup.

With this new incorporation and the signing of Carlos Tatay in the Moto3 category, the team’s line-up is practically closed for the next 2020 season, just waiting to confirm the name of the new rider who will share the MotoGP box with Tito Rabat.

Avintia Esponsorama Racing y Xavier Cardelús, se unen para disputar juntos la próxima Copa del Mundo de MotoE 2020. Será la primera vez que un piloto y una escudería andorrana están juntos en un campeonato del mundo de motociclismo. El joven piloto se suma así a las filas del equipo, como compañero del brasileño Eric Granado.

Xavier Cardelús, con tan solo 21 años de edad, ya acumula experiencia en los circuitos. Viene de disputar la temporada 2019 del Campeonato del Mundo de Moto2, durante el 2018 completó un total de 13 carreras en la categoría intermedia también, en el 2017 participó en SuperSport World Championship y en 2015 compitió en el FIM CEV Moto2 European Championship.

Para el mundial de 2020, Cardelús afrontará un nuevo reto en su trayectoria profesional de la mano del Avintia Esponsorama Racing debutando en la que será la segunda Copa del Mundo de MotoE de la historia.

Con esta nueva incorporación y el fichaje de Carlos Tatay en la categoría de Moto3, queda prácticamente cerrada la plantilla del equipo de cara a la próxima temporada 2020, solo a la espera de confirmar el nombre del nuevo piloto que compartirá ‘box’ en MotoGP con Tito Rabat.

The Brazilian rider from the Avintia Esponsorama Racing proved a high level along the weekend and finished the season in the best possible way.

In the first race of the weekend Granado got his first victory of the season and also the first for the Avintia Esponsorama Racing in the first season of MotoE. Granado, who started from Pole, had an intense battle for the victory with his rivals. Finally, he changed the rhythm with two laps to go and he could set a gap with the other riders to take the first victory.

Xavier Simeon got a fantastic 5th position but, after the disqualification of another rider, the Belgian steps up to 4th.

In the second race, Eric Granado shone again as he got the second victory in the same weekend. Even if he lost the first position in the first laps, the Brazilian from the Avintia Esponsorama Racing set fast laps and arrived in the place of the race leader, Bradley Smith. In the last laps he had to fight hard in order to get the second victory in a row of the season until the last corner of the last lap.

Unfortunately, Simeon crashed out in the first lap in an incident with antoher rider and he could not complete the sixth and last race of the season.

“We did a good job this weekend, I had good feeling with the bike. In the Sunday race I started good, but it was difficult to get the rhythm in the first laps because it was very cold and I had no grip but once the tired warmed up I could recover time to the leader and catch him. I’m happy for winning the second race of the weekend, it was a big fight and battling with Smith makes me even happier because he was a MotoGP rider and he has experience. That means that the championship has a high level and winning that way feels very special and getting the third position in the championship is even more special. Now it’s time to enjoy the victory and get ready for next year”.

“The weekend was not bad at all, in the first race I felt comfortable with the bike and I enjoyed it. Shame about the crash in the second one but that’s racing but I’m happy of how the year was.”

El piloto brasileño del Avintia Esponsorama Racing ha demostrado un gran nivel a lo largo de todo el fin de semana y cierra la temporada de la mejor manera posible.

En la primera carrera del sábado Granado consiguió su primera victoria y la primera también para el Avintia Esponsorama Racing en esta primera temporada de MotoE. Granado, que salía desde la Pole, mantuvo una apasionante batalla por la victoria con sus rivales. Finalmente, hizo un cambio de ritmo a falta de dos vueltas para el final y pudo abrir hueco con sus rivales para llevarse el triunfo.

En la primera carrera, Xavier Simeon consiguió una magnífica quinta posición pero, tras la descalificación de otro piloto, el belga subió hasta la cuarta plaza.

En la segunda carrera, Eric Granado volvió a brillar al conseguir el doblete de victorias en el mismo fin de semana. A pesar de perder la primera posición en los primeros giros, el brasileño del Avintia Esponsorama Racing comenzó a marcar vueltas rápidas y acabó dando alcance al líder de la carrera, Bradley Smith. En los últimos giros tuvo que batallar la segunda victoria hasta la última curva de la última vuelta para conseguir el segundo triunfo consecutivo.

Por desgracia, Xavier Simeon se fue al suelo en la primera vuelta en un incidente con otro piloto y no pudo completar la sexta y última carrera de la temporada.

“Hemos hecho un gran trabajo este fin de semana, he tenido buenas sensaciones con la moto. En la carrera del domingo he salido bien, pero me ha costado coger el ritmo en las primeras vueltas porque hacía mucho frío y no tenía nada de agarre pero cuando se calentó la goma he podido recortar al líder y llegar a la cabeza. Estoy contento de haber ganado la segunda carrera del fin de semana, ha sido luchada y haberme peleado con Smith me hace más feliz aún porque ha corrido en MotoGP y tiene experiencia. Eso significa que el campeonato tiene un alto nivel y ganar de esta manera es muy especial y conseguir la tercera posición del Campeonato aún más. Ahora toca disfrutar de la victoria y prepararse para el año que viene”.

This weekend will come to an end the first MotoE World Cup in the Circuit of the Valencian Community – Ricardo Tormo. The championship, which saw how a fire delayed its debut until June in Germany, has already compited 4 races in three different circuits: Sachsenring, Austria and Misano. In Valencia, Avintia Esponsorama Racing riders will race the last two races of the year, one on Saturday and one on Sunday.

The Circuito de la Comunitat Valenciana was completed in 1999 and held rounds of the MotoGP and Spanish Motorcycle Championships in the same year. The Cheste track has several layouts, running anti-clockwise with varying lengths. MotoGP events are held on a 4km track comprising of five right handed corners, eight left handers and a 876m straight. Although the track is regarded as quite small, the pit complex contains 48 garages whilst the stadium style grandstands can seat up to 150,000 spectators. The circuit layout which allows all parts of the circuit to be seen from any stand helps to create a unique atmosphere enjoyed by Spanish and international riders alike and as the last race of the season there is always a party feeling to the Grand Prix, which was voted best GP of 2005 by IRTA.

With 50 points still to be given and everything to be decided, Xavier Simeon arrives in fifth position in the overall with 45 points only 8 points away of the second and 27 of the leader, Mateo Ferrari. The Belgian rider from the Avintia Esponsorama Racing has been on the podium twice this season, in Austria and in the first race of San Marino. However, Simeon arrives with doubts about how he will be on the bike in Valencia due to an injury suffered training for Bol d’Or in September, just after the San Marino GP.

Eric Granado, on the other hand, arrives in Valencia with his recent renewal for the 2020 season with Avintia Esponsorama Racing. The Brazilian has suffered this season more than expected in his adaptation to MotoE and, before the dispute of the Valencia races, arrives as 13th in the overall with 21 points. Granado won in the simulation race that was held in the Cheste circuit itself in mid-June so he arrives with high expectations since, if he performes well in both races, he could do a step forward in the tight middle zone of the classification.


“After the crash in Bol d’Or I don’t know how I will be physically this weekend. I tried everything on my part to be at my best and the truth is that I am very strong mentally and eager to fight that small possibility that we still have to be the first champion in the history of MotoE. We will try to fight for the podium and why not for the victory. The question mark will be to know how I will be on the bike, but when you put your helmet you often forget these things and I hope this time it will be like this too and I can do my best on the bike. ”

“I am quite motivated and happy. This time I am 100% physically and recovered from the shoulder injury. We race in Cheste this weekend, a circuit where we have very good memories and where we did very well in the test race. I hope to adapt to the conditions of the track that will probably be quite different from when we’ve been there by June time. I want to prepare for the races and get the best possible position on E-Pole, something very important because they are two races. I will give the maximum from the first training to the last race to finish the season in the best way ”.

Este fin de semana llegará a su fin la primera Copa del Mundo de MotoE en el Circuit de la Comunitat Valenciana – Ricardo Tormo. El certamen, que vio como un incendio provocaba el aplazamiento de su estreno hasta junio en Alemania, ha disputado ya 4 carreras en tres escenarios distintos: Sachsenring, Austria y Misano. En Valencia, los pilotos del Avintia Esponsorama Racing disputarán las dos últimas carreras del año, una el sábado y otra el domingo.

El Circuito de la Comunitat Valenciana se completó en 1999 y celebró pruebas del Campeonato de MotoGP ya en ese mismo año. La pista de Cheste tiene varios diseños, que se corren en sentido antihorario con diferentes longitudes. Las carreras de MotoGP se llevan a cabo en una pista de 4 km que consta de cinco curvas a la derecha, ocho a la izquierda y una recta de 876m. Aunque la pista se considera bastante pequeña, el complejo de boxes contiene 48 garajes, mientras que las tribunas estilo estadio pueden albergar hasta 150,000 espectadores. El diseño del circuito que permite ver todas las partes de la pista desde cualquier puesto y ayuda a crear una atmósfera única que los pilotos españoles e internacionales disfrutan por igual. Al tratarse de la última carrera de la temporada siempre hay una sensación de fiesta en el Gran Premio, que fue votado mejor GP de 2005 por IRTA.

Con 50 puntos aún en juego y todo por decidir, Xavier Simeon llega como quinto clasificado de la general con 45 puntos a tan solo 8 del segundo y 27 del líder, Mateo Ferrari. El piloto belga del Avintia Esponsorama Racing, ha subido al podio en dos ocasiones esta temporada, una en Austria y otra en la primera carrera de San Marino. Sin embargo, Simeon llega con dudas sobre cómo se encontrará encima de la moto en Valencia debido a una lesión sufrida entrenando para el Bol d’Or en el mes de septiembre, justo después del GP de San Marino.

Eric Granado, por otro lado, llega a Valencia con su reciente renovación bajo el brazo para la temporada 2020 con por el Avintia Esponsorama Racing. El brasileño ha sufrido esta temporada más de lo esperado en su adaptación a MotoE y, antes de la disputa de las carreras de Valencia, llega 13º de la general con 21 puntos en su casillero. Cabe recordar que Granado se impuso en el simulacro de carrera que se celebró en el propio circuito de Cheste a mediados de junio y, por lo tanto, llega con altas expectativas ya que, de hacerlo bien en las dos carreas, podría dar un importante paso adelante en la apretada zona media de la clasificación.

“Después da la caída en el entrenamiento Bol d’Or no sé en qué condición física me encontraré este fin de semana. He intentado todo por mi parte para estar al máximo y lo cierto es que mentalmente me encuentro muy fuerte y con muchas ganas de luchar esa mínima posibilidad que aún tenemos de ser el primer campeón de la historia de MotoE. Intentaremos luchar por el podio y por qué no por la victoria. La incógnita será saber cómo estaré físicamente encima de la moto, pero cuando bajas la visera muchas veces te olvidas de estas cosas y espero que esta vez sea así también y pueda dar el máximo encima de la moto”.

“Estoy bastante motivado y contento. Esta vez estoy al 100% físicamente y recuperado de la lesión del hombro. Corremos en Cheste este fin de semana, un circuito en el que tenemos muy buenos recuerdos y donde nos fue muy bien en la carrera de test. Espero poder adaptarme a las condiciones de la pista que probablemente serán bastante distintas a cuando fuimos en junio. Quiero prepararme al máximo para las carreras y conseguir la mejor posición de salida posible, algo muy importante porque son dos mangas. Daré el máximo desde el primer entreno hasta la segunda y última carrera para acabar la temporada de la mejor manera posible”.

The Avintia Esponsorama Racing left Misano with good feelings after the positive performances that Xavier Simeon and Eric Granado had during the third round of the MotoE Cup on an intense weekend where to races where held.

In the E-Pole, Simeon managed to set the third fastest time so he could start the race from the first row, which is quite important considering the short length of the races. Granado exceeded track limits in the last corner in his E-Pole lap, so it was cancelled, and he was forced to start from 16th place on the gird.

Race 1

In the first race, Xavier Simeon performed in a really competitive way by finishing third and stepping in the podium as he did in Austria when he finished 2nd and, after race 1 he moved up to 2nd place in the overall classification.

Eric Granado, who arrived in Misano injured in his right shoulder after a crash when training in Brazil, managed to do a great comeback quickly until he unfortunately crashed when chasing the podium group.

“In race 1 we got a really positive 3rd that moved us up to 2nd in the overall and that motivated us a lot. We missed 2nd by little but we can’t complain as we were in podium position.”

“On Friday I started well in FP1 but they everything got a bit harder in FP2 as I had a mechanical issue that did not allow me ride. In E-Pole I got a penalty by exceeding track limits and I had to start from 16th and that did not help us. In race 1 I managed to recover a lot of positions until 4th and then I crashed because, with my right shoulder injury, it was hard for me to turn right properly. I picked up the bike and finish 13th, far from expected. As I couldn’t ride too much, I struggled when trying to find a setting that helped me to ride better after the shoulder injury.”

Race 2

On Sundays race, Xavier Simeon unfortunately crashed in the second corner of the first lap, which make him loose the 2nd position on the overall classification and, after the Misano GP, he is 5th.

On the other hand, Eric Granado had to deal with the bad gird position and he had to do another comeback once again. However, due to the fast pace that the first group had, Granado couldn’t go any further than 6th. In the overall classification the Brazilian is currently 13th.

“I had the same mentality in race 2 than in race 1 and it was to overtake as much as possible. Considering my pace, I just could be 6th and I was thinking that I had to finish the race without taking many risks. The goal was finishing and me accomplished it. Now it’s time to keep working in order to arrive at the 100% for the last two races in Valencia.”

“It was a from more to less weekend. I’m happy with how it was in general but I am disappointed with race 2. I tried to save the battery before the start, and it seems like doing a slower lap before getting to the gird did not help me. I’m disappointed because we probably lost the chance to fight for the championship in Valencia although it is still possible. The most important thing is that I leave Misano with a podium and we can fight for the 2nd place in the overall.”

El equipo Avintia Esponsorama Racing se marchó de Misano con buenas sensaciones después de las positivas actuaciones tanto de Xavier Simeon como Eric Granado en la tercera cita de la Copa de MotoE en un fin de semana intenso en el que se disputaron dos carreras.

En la E-Pole, Simeon consiguió una tercera posición que le permitiría salir de la primera fila, algo de vital importancia dada la corta distancia de las carreras. Granado, por su parte, excedió los límites de la pista en su vuelta lanzada, por lo cual se le anuló y tuvo que salir 16º.

Carrera 1

En la primera carrera Xavier Simeon protagonizó una muy buena actuación finalizando la carrera en tercera posición y subiendo al podio por segunda vez consecutiva tras su segunda plaza en Austria, lo cual le llevó a la segunda plaza en la general.

Eric Granado, que llegaba a Misano renqueante de una lesión de hombro, fue remontando con rapidez hasta que desgraciadamente se fue al suelo cuando estaba alcanzando las posiciones de podio.

“En la primera carrera logramos una muy buena tercera posición que nos situó en la segunda posición de la general, algo que nos motivó mucho. Se nos escapó la segunda posición por poco pero dimos por bueno el tercer puesto”.

“El viernes empecé bien en el primer entrenamiento pero luego se complicó todo en el FP2 porque tuve una avería en la moto que no me permitió salir. En la clasificación tuve una penalización exceder los limites de la pista y salí 16º, lo cual nos comprometió bastante. En la primera carrera pude hacer una muy buena remontada hasta ser cuarto, pero desgraciadamente me fui al suelo debido a que me cuesta girar a derechas por la lesión del hombro. Al no poder rodar demasiado no pude encontrar una configuración que me ayudase con este pilotaje nuevo que estoy haciendo por la lesión. Pude volver a pista, pero acabé 13º, lejos de lo esperado”.

Carrera 2

En la carrera del domingo, Xavier Simeon se fue al suelo en la segunda curva de la primera vuelta cuando intentaba superar a otro piloto, lo cual le hizo perder la segunda posición de la general en la que se encontraba tras la primera carrera y ahora está situado en 5ª posición.

Por otro lado, Eric Granado se vio lastrado por su posición de parrilla y, una vez más, tuvo que ir remontando posiciones pero, debido al rapidísimo ritmo impuesto por los pilotos de cabeza, le supuso imposible pasar de una sexta positiva sexta posición en carrera. En la general, el piloto brasileño marcha 13º.

“En la segunda carrera me lo he tomado con la misma actitud que el sábado para poder adelantar al mayor número de pilotos posibles. Estaba en una posición acorde con mi ritmo y solo pensaba en acabar la carrera sin coger demasiados riesgos. El objetivo era acabar y lo hemos cumplido. Ahora toca seguir trabajando para llegar al máximo a las dos últimas carreras de Valencia”.

“Fue un finde de más a menos. Estoy contento con cómo fue en general pero estoy disgustado por lo ocurrido en la segunda carrera. Intenté gestionar mi batería antes de la salida y parece que hacer la vuelta más lento para llegar a parrilla me perjudicó, hice un high side en la segunda curva y me di un fuerte golpe en la cabeza. Estoy decepcionado porque se nos escapa la oportunidad de luchar por el campeonato en Valencia aunque matemáticamente sea posible. Lo importante es que me voy con un podio de Misano y aún podemos luchar por el segundo puesto.”

This weekend, the Marco Simoncelli World Circuit of Misano will host the third round of the MotoE Championship with two race to dispute, one on Saturday and another on Sunday.
The Avintia Esponsorama Racing riders arrived in Misano with good feelings after a great performance in Austria where they showed that they are capable of fight for the top positions. In Spielberg, Xavier Simeón flew back homer with a brilliant second position that motivates him for the rest of the season. Thanks to this result, the Belgian is in third position in the general now only 12 points away from the leader, which keeps him with realistic options to fight for the MotoE title. Eric Granado, meanwhile, suffered an unfortunate crash when he was strongly dominating a wet race in Spielberg that didn’t allow him to add some important points.


“As happened in the previous races, it will be all new with MotoE but we are very motivated because of the result in Austria since we are proving that we can be competitive both dry and wet. Now we have to continue enjoying the new class that has a different approach to what we knew so far and, as a novelty, this weekend we will have two races so we will have to be aggressive and intelligent so we can fight for the podium and the victories and don’t miss points.”

“The expectations for the weekend are high after the good performance shown in Austria where I was in the top in the practices and in the race where I crashed and I left Austra with a bittersweet taste but it is clear that we are competitive. This weekend We have two races and it will be very important to set up the bike in the Free Practices and qualify well at the E pole. Unfortunately, I arrive with a shoulder injury after a crash when I was riding a bike two weeks ago. I suffered a dislocation but I am being healed with the doctors and the physio. I don’t know how much it will hurt me but the doctors allowed me to race and I will do my best from start to finish.”

Este fin de semana el Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli acogerá la tercera cita del Campeonato de MotoE con la disputa de dos carreras, una el sábado y otra el domingo.
Los pilotos del Avintia Esponsorama Racing llegan a Misano con buenas sensaciones después de una gran actuación en Austria donde demostraron que son capaces de pelear por las posiciones de cabeza. En dicha prueba, Xavier Simeon logró una brillante segunda posición que le motiva de cara a lo que resta de campeonato. Gracias a dicho resultado, el belga se encuentra en tercera posición en la general a tan solo 12 puntos del líder, lo cual le mantiene con claras opciones de luchar por el título MotoE. Eric Granado, por su parte, sufrió una desafortunada caída cuando dominaba con mano de hierro la carrera bajo la lluvia en Spielberg que le impidió sumar unos puntos importantes.

“Como ocurrió en las anteriores pruebas, será todo nuevo con la MotoE pero venimos muy motivados por el resultado de Austria ya que estamos viendo que podemos ser competitivos tanto en seco como en mojado. Ahora hay que seguir disfrutando de la nueva categoría que tiene un enfoque distinto a lo que conocíamos hasta ahora y, como novedad, este fin de semana disputaremos dos carreras así que habrá que ser agresivo e inteleigente para no dejar escapar puntos para luchar por el podio y las victorias.”.

“Las expectativas para el fin de semana son buenas después del buen rendimiento demostrado en Austria donde estuve delante en entrenamientos y carrera. Está claro que me caí y me fui con un sabor agridulce pero está claro que somos competitivos. Este fin de semana tenemos dos carreras y será muy importante la puesta a punto de la moto en los libres y clasificarse bien en la E-Pole. Por desgracia, llego con una lesión en el hombro después de una caída cuando iba en bicicleta hace dos semanas. Se me salió el hombro y sufrí una luxación pero lo estoy tratando con los doctores y el fisio. No sé hasta que punto me dolerá pero los doctores me han dejado correr y habrá que dar el máximo de principio a fin”.
