Reale Avintia Racing rider Loris Baz finished ninth at the Grand Prix of Austria at the spectacular Spielberg circuit today. The 24-year-old French rider started the race from the fourth row of the grid following an excellent performance on Saturday, when he went straight in Q2 and was 12^th fastest in qualifying. After the start he gained some places and he battled for three laps with Andrea Iannone for eighth position. Baz was leading the second group during a big part of the race. With nine laps to go, he tried to get Alvaro Bautista under control, but the Spaniard had a better pace and Loris finished the race in ninth place.

His Reale Avintia teammate Hector Barbera struggled with tyre performance issues from the first laps. The Spanish started the race from fifth row, two spots behind Baz. He had a good start but lost many places after a contact with Pol Espargaro on the main straight. It took him six laps to recovered to 14^th place and he then started a big battle with Jack Miller and Scott Redding, but he struggled with rear grip problems and finally finished the race in 17^th place.

“I’m very happy with my race. It was difficult to choose the tyres before the start, because with the rise of temperature we didn’t know how the soft front would work in the race. I had a decent start, but I lost concentration a little bit when I saw Petrucci moving on the grid. The first lap was good and I was able to pass some riders. I lost too much time trying to overtake Iannone, but then I kept a good rhythm and I managed the gap with the riders behind me really well. Then Alvaro arrived and he was faster and I lost eighth place. But I defended my position from Mika’s attack on the last few laps and I’m happy for that. I think this was my best race in MotoGP, nobody crashed in the front and I finished less than 20 seconds behind the winner. My team did a great job over the weekend and this it the best way to celebrate my Dad’s birthday.”

“The rider who was in front of me got stuck at the start and I was forced to move to the left, but Pol came faster from the back and we had a big contact. We were lucky not to crash. Then I saw that he had to retire, I don’t know if it was because of the incident and if it was because of that, I want to say sorry. Then I was able to recover, I had a good battle with Miller and Redding, but after seven laps my rear tyre dropped and I struggled a lot with spinning. We don’t know why we had this problem, maybe it was because of the higher temperature that affected the tyre performance. But we didn’t have any problem during the weekend and it was strange”.

El pilot de l’equip Reale Avintia Racing Loris Baz ha acabat novè en el Gran Premi d’Àustria disputat avui a l’espectacular circuit de Spielberg. El pilot francès de 24 anys sortia des de les quarta línia de la graella després d’entrar ahir dissabte a la Q2 i aconseguir el dotzè millor registre en els cronometrats. Després de la sortida ha guanyat tres posicions i després de barallar amb Andrea Iannone, s’ha col·locat vuitè en la quarta volta. Baz ha liderat el segon grup durant tota la carrera, però a falta de nou voltes per al final no ha pogut contenir els atacs d’Álvaro Bautista i ha acabat novè.

Per el seu company al Reale Avintia, Héctor Barberá, la cursa s’ha complicat després de baixar el rendiment dels pneumàtics en les primeres voltes. L’espanyol sortia a la cinquena línia, dos llocs per darrere de Baz, i ha fet una bona arrencada, però després de tocar-se amb Pol Espargaró a la recta ha baixat fins a les últimes posicions. En les primeres sis voltes ha remuntat que fins a col·locar-14º per darrere de Jack Miller. Després ha lliurat una bona creuada amb l’australià i amb Scott Redding, encara que amb poca adherència des de les primeres voltes, no ha pogut mantenir el ritme i ha atravessat la meta 17º.

“Estic molt content perquè ha estat una cursa molt bona. Era complicat triar els pneumàtics, però en ascendir la temperatura no sabíem com aniria el tou davanter en la cursa. He sortit normal i m’ha despistat que Petrucci s’ha mogut una mica, però la primera volta ha anat bé. He perdut una mica de temps per avançar Iannone, però després he tingut bon ritme i he gestionat bé la distància amb els de darrere, però quan ha arribat Álvaro tenia alguna cosa més que jo i no he pogut mantenir la vuitena posició. Després he gestionat bé les últimes voltes amb Mika Kallio i per això estic content. Crec que he fet la millor cursa des que estic en MotoGP, ningú s’ha caigut davant i he acabat a menys de 20 segons del primer. El meu equip ha fet un grandíssim treball i aquest resultat és la millor manera de felicitar el meu pare pel seu aniversari. ”

“En la sortida el que sortia per davant s’ha quedat clavat i quan he tirat a l’esquerra, el Pol venia més ràpid, ens hem tocat i hem tingut sort de no caure. He vist que després s’ha retirat, no sé si perquè la moto tenia algun problema després del toc, però si és així li demano disculpes. Després he aconseguit recuperar les posicions perdudes. He tingut una bona baralla amb Miller i Redding, però el pneumàtic del darrere ha caigut de cop després de set voltes i he començat a tenir molt ‘spinning’ i la moto no avançava. No sabem si l’augment de temperatura ha afectat el rendiment dels pneumàtics, perquè no havíem tingut aquest problema en tot el cap de setmana i avui tot s’ha complicat.”

El piloto del equipo Reale Avintia Racing Loris Baz ha terminado noveno en el Gran Premio de Austria disputado hoy en el espectacular circuito de Spielberg. El piloto francés de 24 años salía desde las cuarta línea de la parrilla tras entrar ayer sábado en la Q2 y conseguir el duodécimo mejor registro en los cronometrados. Tras la salida ha ganado tres posiciones y después de pelear con Andrea Iannone, se ha colocado octavo en la cuarta vuelta. Baz ha liderado el segundo grupo durante toda la carrera, pero a falta de nueve vueltas para el final no ha podido contener los ataques de Álvaro Bautista y ha terminado noveno.

Para su compañero en el Reale Avintia, Héctor Barberá, la carrera se ha complicado tras bajar el rendimiento de los neumáticos en las primeras vueltas. El español salía en la quinta línea, dos puestos por detrás de Baz, y ha realizado una buena arrancada, pero tras tocarse con Pol Espargaró en la recta ha bajado hasta las últimas posiciones. En las primeras seis vueltas ha remontado que hasta colocarse 14º por detrás de Jack Miller. Después ha librado una buena batalla con el australiano y con Scott Redding, aunque con poco agarre desde las primeras vueltas, no ha podido mantener el ritmo y ha cruzado la meta 17º.

“Estoy muy contento porque ha sido una carrera muy buena. Era complicado elegir los neumáticos, pero al subir la temperatura no sabíamos cómo iría el blando delantero en la carrera. He salido normal y me ha desconcentrado que Petrucci se ha movido un poco, pero la primera vuelta ha ido bien. He perdido un poco de tiempo para adelantar a Iannone, pero después he tenido buen ritmo y he gestionado bien la distancia con los de detrás, pero cuando ha llegado Álvaro tenía algo más que yo y no he podido mantener la octava posición. Después he gestionado bien las últimas vueltas con Mika Kallio y por eso estoy contento. Creo que he hecho la mejor carrera desde que estoy en MotoGP, nadie se ha caído delante y he terminado a menos de 20 segundos del primero. Mi equipo ha hecho un grandísimo trabajo y este resultado es la mejor manera de felicitar a mi padre por su cumpleaños.”

“En la salida el que salía por delante se ha quedado clavado y cuando he tirado a la izquierda Pol venía más rápido, nos hemos tocado y hemos tenido suerte de no caernos. He visto que después se ha retirado, no sé si porque la moto tenía algún problema tras el toque, pero si es así le pidió disculpas. Después he conseguido recuperar las posiciones perdidas. He tenido una buena pelea con Miller y Redding, pero el neumático trasero ha caído de golpe después de siete vueltas y he comenzado a tener mucho ‘spinning’ y la moto no avanzaba. No sabemos si el aumento de temperatura ha afectado al rendimiento de los neumáticos, porque no habíamos tenido ese problema en todo el fin de semana y hoy todo se ha complicado.”

Els dos ha començat el dia decidits a passar a la Q2, però finalment només Loris Baz ha aconseguit el seu objectiu després de classificar setè en el FP3 amb una gran volta en 1’24.097.

Héctor Barberá s’ha quedat a les portes i, després a la Q1 ha acabat quart a només dues dècimes del més ràpid. De fet, amb el seu temps hauria estat molt més amunt a la Q2, però l’espanyol confia a poder millorar una mica més la posada a punt de la seva Ducati i remuntar en la cursa a 28 voltes de demà.

Loris Baz ha intentat millorar en la Q2, però no s’ha trobat tan còmode com al matí i ha acabat dotzè. Com Barberà espera poder aprofitar el seu gran ritme de carrera i lluitar per acabar entre els deu primers

“Fins arribar a la Q2 tot el dia ha anat molt bé, però després ha anat fatal. No he aconseguit donar la volta que hauriade haber fet, m’he passat moltes vegades i no tenia el mateix ‘feeling’ amb la roda de davant que al matí . Però estic satisfet perquè hem provat moltes coses avui per estar més amunt i això és el bo d’entrar directe a la Q2. Al final no ha sortit la volta, però tampoc canvia tant per a la carrera sortir de la tercera o la quarta línia. L’important és que hem treballat molt bé durant tot el cap de setmana, al FP4 hem donat més de 20 voltes per veure el rendiment dels pneumàtics i demà veurem què passa, però l’objectiu serà acabar entre els deu primers.”

“Al final no ha pogut ser, m’ha faltat només una dècima per passar, però no ha pogut ser. Està tot molt ajustat, però de totes maneres nosaltres seguim apretant i avui hem millorat bastant respecte al primer dia. He acabat el quart a la Q1 a dues dècimes del més ràpid. On més perdo és en les dues corbes de l’ esquerres, però tenim algunes idees per provar matí en el warm-up i crec que el ritme de carrera no ha estat dolent, així que confio poder fer-ho bé demà.”

Reale Avintia Racing riders Loris Baz and Hector Barbera will start tomorrow’s Austrian Grand Prix from twelfth and 14^th place of the grid. Both riders were determined to get in Q2, but then it was just Baz who made it through with an excellent lap of 1’24.097 in FP3.

Hector Barbera was really close, but not quite fast enough. Later in Q1 he finished fourth just two tenths behind the fastest rider. It was a pity, because with his pace he would have been in tenth position in Q2. Nevertheless, the Spaniard is confident for tomorrow 28-laps encounter.

Loris Baz tried his best in Q2, but he didn’t have the same feeling from FP3 and he finished 12^th. Like his teammate, Loris is still confident for the race as his rhythm is good enough to be fighting for a top ten result tomorrow.

“Until Q2 the day was almost perfect, but then everything went the wrong way. I was not able to put all together on my flying lap, I went long several times and I couldn’t find the feeling I had with the front tyre in the morning. But I’m quite satisfied because we tested a lot of ideas to be faster, and that’s the good thing about going straight into Q2. Finally the lap didn’t come, but it is not a big difference to start from the third or fourth row. The most important thing is that we did a great job so far this weekend. We did more than 20 laps in FP4 to learn about tyre performance and we will see what happens tomorrow. My goal is to finish the race in the top ten.”

“I was really close but finally it didn’t happen. I missed Q2 by just one tenth. Everything is really tight and we have been pushing during the whole weekend. Today we went faster compared to yesterday and I was fourth in Q1, only two tenths from the fastest rider. I lose too much in the lefthand corners, but we have some ideas to test during warm-up. I’m confident to recover in the race because my rhythm is quite good. I believe that we can have a strong race tomorrow.”

Los pilotos del equipo Reale Avintia Racing, Loris Baz y Héctor Barberá saldrán mañana en el Gran Premio de Austria desde la duodécima y 14ª posición, respectivamente. Los dos ha comenzado el día decididos a pasar a la Q2, pero finalmente solo Loris Baz ha conseguido su objetivo tras clasificarse séptimo en el FP3 con una gran vuelta en 1’24.097. Héctor Barberá se ha quedado a las puertas y, después en la Q1 ha terminado cuarto a solo dos décimas del más rápido. De hecho, con su tiempo habría estado mucho más arriba en la Q2, pero el español confía en poder mejorar un poco más la puesta a punto de su Ducati y remontar en la carrera a 28 vueltas de mañana.

Loris Baz ha intentado mejorar en la Q2, pero no se ha encontrado tan cómodo como por la mañana y ha terminado duodécimo. Como Barberá espera poder aprovechar su gran ritmo de carrera y luchar por acabar entre los diez primeros.

“Hasta llegar a la Q2 todo el día ha ido muy bien, pero después ha ido fatal. No he conseguido dar la vuelta que debía, me he pasado muchas veces y no tenía el mismo ‘feeling’ con la rueda delantera que por la mañana. Pero estoy satisfecho porque hemos probado muchas cosas hoy para estar más arriba y eso es lo bueno de entrar directo en la Q2. Al final no ha salido la vuelta, pero tampoco cambia tanto para la carrera salir de la tercera o la cuarta línea. Lo importante es que hemos trabajado muy bien durante todo el fin de semana, en el FP4 hemos dado más de 20 vueltas para ver el rendimiento de los neumáticos y mañana veremos qué pasa, pero el objetivo será terminar entre los diez primeros.”

“Al final no ha podido ser, me ha faltado solo una décima para pasar, pero no ha podido ser. Está todo muy apretado, pero de todos modos nosotros seguimos apretando y hoy hemos mejorado bastante con respecto al primer día. He acabado el cuarto en la Q1 a dos décimas del más rápido. Donde más pierdo es en las dos curvas de izquierdas, pero tenemos algunas ideas para probar mañana en el warm-up y creo que el ritmo de carrera no ha sido malo, así que confío en poder hacerlo bien mañana.”

Reale Avintia Racing rider Hector Barbera had a strong start to the Grand Prix of Austria today. In the morning, he was the fastest rider on track and his feelings with his Ducati Desmosedici GP16 were very good. In the afternoon, with the track drying out after a short downpour right before the start of the session, Barbera lost a few position. But the Spaniard hadn’t pushed for a fast lap and concentrated instead on refining the race set-up of his bike. The Reale Avintia Racing rider, who finished sixth in the combined free practice times, used only Michelin’s medium option rear tyre in FP2, because he wanted to keep the soft ones for tomorrow’s qualifying.

Loris Baz’s was just 0.3s slower than his teammate Barbera today, but the session was incredibly close with 16 riders in one second, which relegated the Frenchman to 14^th in the combined time sheets.

The goal for both riders tomorrow will be passing to Q2, which is crucial to get the best possible position on the grid for Sunday’s 28-lap race.

“It was a positive first day. In the first session we finished on top and this afternoon we have focused on the race set-up, using the medium rear tyre to work on the race pace and my feelings with the bike. Step by step, we were able to get some useful information. We did not use our soft tyres, because we wan to keep them for tomorrow. But I’m calm. I did 1’25.2 easy with the medium compound. In the combined times of the day, we finished sixth and I think the team has done a good job. We have to take advantage of a track that is suited well to my style and the Ducati. Tomorrow it will be important to move to Q2 and continue to prepare Sunday’s race.”

“At this track, everything is always really close, but overall I think that the first day was good. The bike works pretty well and I need to improve my feelings from Brno where the bike was difficult to turn. Here we have that problem in two corners, but we’re progressing in the right direction. We finished close to the top 10, but I went slightly long in one corner on my hot lap and I lost one tenth of a second. But I’m happy because we are working in the right direction and towards the race. Tomorrow we have to try to get straight in Q2 to get the best possible result in qualifying.”

El pilot de l’equip Reale Avintia Racing, Héctor Barberá, ha començat fort el Gran Premi d’Àustria. Al matí ha aconseguit el millor temps i les seves sensacions amb la Ducati Desmosedici GP16 han estat molt bones. Aquesta tarda, amb la pista assecant-se després de caure una tempesta de minuts

abans de començar, Barberá ha acabat més enrere. Però l’espanyol en cap moment ha buscat una volta ràpida i s’ha concentrat en perfeccionar la posada a punt per a la cursa. El pilot del Reale Avintia Racing, que ha acabat el dia sisè en la combinada de temps, només ha rodat amb pneumàtics mitjans usats en el FP2 per reservar els tous per demà.

El seu company Loris Baz ha acabat a menys de tres dècimes de segon de Barberà, però amb 16 pilots, en menys d’un segon, les diferències són tan mínimes que el francès ha acabat el dia 14è a la combinada de temps.
Demà els dos pilots sortiran a pista amb l’objectiu de passar directament a la Q2 i així aconseguir una bona posició a la graella de sortida per a la cursa de diumenge.

“Ha estat un primer dia positiu. Al primer lliure, hem acabat primers i aquesta tarda ens hem centrat en preparar la cursa, amb pneumàtics mitjans, agafant ritme, sensacions i poc a poc anem veien coses. No hem muntat pneumàtic tou per guardar per demà i amb el mig he rodat a 1’25.2, així que estic tranquil. A la combinada del dia hem acabat sisens i crec que l’equip ha fet una bona feina. Tenim que aprofitar i treure partit d’una pista que s’adapta bé al meu estil i al de la Ducati. Demà serà important passar a la Q2 i seguir preparant bé la cursa de diumenge. ”

“Aquí sempre està tot súper ajustat, però en general no ha anat malament per ser el primer dia. La moto ha funcionat prou bé però estem treballant per millorar les meves sensacions amb la moto pel que fa a Brno on no girava bé. Només hi ha dues corbes en aquest circuit on tenim aquest problema i estem millorant. Ens ha faltat molt poc per estar entre els deu primers, m’he anat una mica llarg en la meva volta ràpida i he perdut una dècima, però estic content. Estem treballant per fer una moto que funcioni bé en cursa, a veure si demà aconseguim passar a la Q2. “

El piloto del equipo Reale Avintia Racing, Héctor Barberá, ha comenzado fuerte el Gran Premio de Austria. Por la mañana ha conseguido el mejor tiempo y sus sensaciones con la Ducati Desmosedici GP16 han sido muy buenas. Esta tarde, con la pista secándose después de caer una tormenta minutos antes de comenzar, Barberá ha terminado más atrás. Pero el español en ningún momento ha buscado una vuelta rápida y se ha concentrado en afinar la puesta a punto para la carrera. El piloto del Reale Avintia Racing, que ha acabado el día sexto en la combinada de tiempos, sólo ha rodado con neumáticos medios usados en el FP2 para reservar los blandos para mañana.

Su compañero Loris Baz ha terminado a menos de tres décimas de segundo de Barberá, pero con 16 pilotos en menos de un segundo, las diferencias son tan mínimas que el francés ha acabado el día 14º en la combinada de tiempos.

Mañana ambos pilotos saldrán a pista con el objetivo de pasar directamente a la Q2 y así lograr una buena posición en la parrilla de salida para la carrera del domingo.

“Ha sido un primer día positivo. En el primer libre hemos terminado primeros y esta tarde nos hemos centrado en preparar la carrera, con neumáticos medios, cogiendo ritmo, sensaciones y poco a poco vamos viendo cosas. No hemos montado neumático blando para guardar para mañana y con el medio he rodado en 1’25.2, así que estoy tranquilo. En la combinada del día hemos terminado sextos y creo que el equipo ha hecho un buen trabajo. Tenemos aprovechar y sacar partido de una pista que se adapta bien a mi estilo y al de la Ducati. Mañana será importante pasar a la Q2 y seguir preparando bien la carrera del domingo.”

“Aquí siempre está todo súper apretado, pero en general no ha ido mal para ser el primer día. La moto ha funcionado bastante bien pero estamos trabajando para mejorar mis sensaciones con la moto con respecto a Brno donde no giraba bien. Solo hay dos curvas en este circuito donde tenemos ese problema y estamos mejorando. Nos ha faltado muy poco para estar entre los diez primeros, me he ido un poco largo en mi vuelta rápida y he perdido una décima, pero estoy contento. Estamos trabajando para hacer una moto que funcione bien en carrera y a ver si mañana conseguimos pasar a la Q2.”

The Reale Avintia Racing Team arrived in the Czech Republic eager to start the second half of the season on the right foot. On Friday, Hector Barbera had a great start and seemed to be set for a good weekend. On Saturday, Loris Baz got straight in Q2 and although Barbera failed his attempt, both riders were confident for the race. Rain would be a big help for them, because both had showed their speed in these conditions many times, and last season they achieved one of the best result for the team in MotoGP at Brno.

But in the race, both Reale Avintia Racing riders were unlucky. The rain stopped before the start and then both riders had problems when they came into the pits to swap their bikes. Hector had to come in again when he felt something was wrong with his bike and after two stops all chances of scoring points were lost. Loris hit one of his mechanics swapping bikes, but fortunately he was uninjured. Then he started to recover and was eleventh, but he lost three places later one and crashed out with six laps when he pushed to catch Jack Miller.

The MotoGP World Championship now heads to Austria next week for the eleventh round.The Reale Avintia Racing riders look forward to move on to Spielberg and put the Brno weekend behind them with a good result.

“It was an up and down weekend. At some stages we seemed to go the right way, but then we got lost again. The race today was really difficult and nothing went as planned. The rain stopped before the start and it was like playing lottery. I decided to swap bikes early as I could see very quickly that the track was ready to go with slick tyres, but when I went out again something was wrong with the bike and I had to stop again. With two pit stops, the race was over for me. We had some positive aspects this weekend, the team is highly motivated and everybody wants to leave this unlucky string of races behind. Next week we have another opportunity and this time, we have to do our best on a track that suits my Ducati very much!”

“It was difficult to make the tyre choice before the start. We always leave the bike with its rain settings when the track is damp and after a few laps we change for the second bike with dry settings. But the problem today was that the track was already dry on the first lap and it was time to pull in and swap the bike, but I had to wait until the bike was ready. I ended up coming in when most of the others did the same and during the change, I tore one of the mechanics to the ground. Leaving the pit lane, I was thinking of what just happened and I almost fell myself. I needed a couple of laps to find back to my concentration, but then I rode on in my normal pace. But this bike is difficult: We can do a single fast lap, but to strong many fast laps together is tough. It’s hard to get the bike to turn, we have a lot of chatter in the front and things get worse as the tyres wear off. I pushed a lot trying to catch Miller and I crashed. It’s a shame, but this is racing!”
