MotoGP GP of Aragón – MotorLand Aragón

Reale Avintia Racing riders Xavier Simeon and Jordi Torres battled with the heat over the 19 laps of the Aragón Grand Prix to finish in 19^th and 20^th position.

To complete the full race distance aboard the Ducati GP17 of his injured team-mate Tito Rabat was a valuable experience for the Belgian rider, who was forced to retire from the previous Grand Prix at Misano due to a crash, but who learned a lot during the race now at Aragón.

On the other side of the garage, Jordi Torres was al smiles after his first experience in the blue ribbon class of motorcycle racing. It wasn’t an easy task to learn so many things in such a short time and with the pressure of a race weekend, but Torre, one of the darlings of the Spanish crowd, improved session by session and finished they race less than a second behind his team-mate. To sum it up, he did a great job.

Should Tito Rabat not get the green light from the medical team of MotoGP to take part at the next round in Thailand, Simeon will have a third opportunity with the Ducati GP17 and Torres will take the vacant seat in the team one more time.

The Grand Prix of Thailand will take place at the Chang International Circuit from 5^th to 7^th of October.

“This weekend was much more difficult than I expected, as I really thought I’d be able to finish higher up in the classification. But we had a lot of traction problems over the whole weekend. In the race, the last laps were especially difficult. Even though the bike turns very well, I couldn’t get the power down in the moment of opening the throttle. The only positive thing is the additional experience with this bike. Now we have to concentrate on the next race in Thailand where I expect to make another step forward.”

“To complete my first Grand Prix in the MotoGP class was a very emotional experience. A dream came true and I enjoyed every moment of it. It helped me to understand tyre wear, how the bike changes over the distance and how you have to adapt your riding style to the decreasing fuel load. But to be honest, not a lot of this sank in and every time I saw myself getting closer to the front, I made more mistakes. I tried to stay cool during the race and to concentrate on my riding position, but I’m still too rigid on the bike. I would have liked to stay with another rider in the race, but nevertheless, I am very happy. Now we’ll have to wait and see if Tito will fly to Thailand or not. I am prepared for whatever is needed.”

Los pilotos del equipo Reale Avintia Racing, Xavier Simeon y Jordi Torres, han combatido el calor durante las 19 vueltas del Gran Premio de Aragón para terminar la carrera en 19ª y 20ª posición, respectivamente.

Para el belga completar la carrera ha sido una valiosa experiencia sobre la Ducati GP17 de su compañero lesionado, Tito Rabat. En Misano, tras sufrir una pequeña caída en la segunda vuelta se tuvo que retirar, pero hoy ha aprendido muchas más cosas.

En el otro lado del box Jordi Torres ha terminado feliz con su primera experiencia en la categoría reina. No era una tarea fácil aprender tantas cosas en tan poco tiempo y con la presión de un fin de semana de carreras, pero Torres, muy querido por la afición española, ha ido mejorando en cada sesión y ha terminado la carrera a menos de un segundo de su compañero de equipo. Por lo tanto, ha hecho un gran trabajo.

Si Tito Rabat no recibe el visto bueno del Equipo Médico de MotoGP para viajar a Tailandia, Simeon tendrá una tercera oportunidad con la GP17, a la vez que Torres volverá a cubrir la baja en el equipo.

El Gran Premio de Tailandia tendrá lugar en el Chang International Circuit del 5 al 7 de octubre.

“Ha sido un fin de semana mucho más difícil de lo que me esperaba, porque sinceramente me veía capaz de terminar más arriba en la clasificación. Hemos tenido bastante problemas de tracción durante todo el fin de semana y, en carrera, las últimas vueltas han sido muy difíciles porque, aunque la moto gira muy bien, en el momento de abrir gas no podía transmitir toda la potencia en el suelo. Lo único positivo es la experiencia acumulada con esta moto. Ahora toca pensar en Tailandia donde espero dar otro paso hacia delante”.

“Estoy emocionado por haber terminado mi primer Gran Premio en MotoGP, sobre todo porque he cumplido un sueño y he disfrutado muchísimo. Me ha servido para conocer el desgaste de los neumáticos, cómo cambia la moto y el estilo de conducción cuando se vacía el depósito de gasolina… Aunque para ser sincero, no me he enterado de nada y cada vez que me veía más adelante, cometía más errores. Durante la carrera he intentado tener la mente fría, pensar en la posición encima de la moto, pero sigo yendo muy rígido encima de la moto. Me hubiera gustado estar con alguien en carrera, pero estoy muy contento. Ahora a ver qué pasa, si Tito viaja a Tailandia o no. Yo estaré preparado para lo que haga falta”.

The riders of Team Reale Avintia Racing, Xavier Simeon and Jordi Torres, were not very happy with their qualifying results for the Grand Prix of Aragón on Sunday.

The Belgian rider, who is contesting his second race on the bike of injured Tito Rabat, couldn’t improve his lap time as he had expected, due to dense traffic on the track during his last time attack in Q1. He will now start from the 22^nd position of the grid. Upbeat about his race rhythm, Simeon believes he will be fast enough to ride and battle within another group of riders.

Teammate and rookie Jordi Torres also had a difficult second day of practice. After a crash in FP3 during the morning session, the rider from Rubí lost some of his confidence in the front end and in the front fork set-up of his bike. But the rider from Rubí made the best out of the day and improved his Friday time significantly. There is no hidden agenda for the race, simply to put up a fight.

Warm-Up will start at 9.40 on Sunday and both Xavier Simeon and Jordi Torres are determined to put up a fight and get as many issues sorted as possible before the race starts at 14.00 h local time!”

“Honestly, I am disappointed because when we mounted the last rear tyre in qualifying, I ran into a lot of traffic and couldn’t get the result we were expecting. I am angry, because I expected a much bigger improvement with the new rear tyre and I felt really comfortable on the bike, so it’s a real shame. Now it will be even more important to get a good start, so I can get the maximum out of the race. It will be long, tough and very hot, but I am confident to be able to maintain my rhythm which should allow me to gain positions and fight for a good result.”

“It was a difficult day. In a nutshell, we were in delay for the whole day and it was my fault. This morning in FP3, I made a mistake downshifting and I came off the bike. It was a stupid crash, but big enough to throw out our plans for the whole day. We had best intentions to apply a bit more pressure, but this delay made us more careful instead. In FP4, we rode many laps in order to improve my feelings with the bike and to change my seating position. In Q1, I pushed harder and tried to lean over more than all the others, and I can say that I never ever in my life went with more lean angle. Riding like that, the bike behaved differently and we made a lot of progress. It’s a pity that we didn’t make this move in the morning. But nevertheless, I am highly motivated and we’ll now see what we can achieve in the race.

Los pilotos del equipo Reale Avintia Racing, Xavier Simeon y Jordi Torres, no han terminado contentos con sus resultados en la sesión clasificatoria para el Gran Premio de Aragón de MotoGP.

El piloto belga, que disputa en MotorLand su segunda carrera sobre la moto del lesionado, Tito Rabat, no ha mejorado sus tiempos todo lo que esperaba al encontrar tráfico en pista durante su último ataque al cronómetro en la Q1 y mañana saldrá 22º. Simeon confía en su ritmo de carrera y cree que puede ser suficiente para disputar una carrera en grupo.

Para el debutante Jordi Torres, el segundo día ha sido también complicado. Tras de caer durante el FP3 por la mañana, Torres ha perdido un poco de confianza en el tren delantero de su Ducati. Pero el piloto de Rubí ha aprovechado bien el FP4 y en la Q1 ha mejorado considerablemente su mejor tiempo del viernes. No se marca ningún objetivo para la carrera, pero quiere dar guerra.

El warm-up comenzará mañana a las 09:40h y, tanto Simeon como Torres esperan dar otro paso adelante, para luchar por un buen resultado en la carrera que, como es habitual, dará comienzo a las 14:00h.

“Sinceramente estoy decepcionado porque cuando he montado el último neumático en la sesión clasificatoria, he encontrado mucho tráfico y no he podido sacar provecho. Estoy enfadado porque esperaba mejorar bastante con el neumático nuevo y me encontraba bastante cómodo con la moto, por lo tanto, ha sido una lástima. Ahora lo importante será salir bien mañana y disfrutar al máximo en la carrera. Será muy larga y dura con tanto calor, pero confío en poder mantener un ritmo constante para ganar posiciones y luchar por un buen resultado”.

“Ha sido un día complicado. Podríamos decir que hemos ido con retraso todo el día por mi culpa. Esta mañana en el FP3 he cometido un error al bajar una marcha y me he ido al suelo. Ha sido una caída tonta pero que nos ha cambiado los planes por completo. Teníamos intención de apretar un poco más, pero este contratiempo nos ha hecho ir con más cuidado. En el FP4, hemos dado muchas vueltas para mejorar mis sensaciones con la moto y cambiar mi posición sobre la moto. En la Q1 he forzado más y he tratado de inclinar como los demás y puedo decir que nunca en mi vida había inclinado tanto sobre una moto. Eso hace que la moto se comporte de otra manera y con este paso hemos avanzado bastante. La pena ha sido no dar este paso por la mañana. Aun así estoy muy motivado y veremos qué podemos hacer en la carrera”.

The riders of team Reale Avintia Racing had a good first day at the Grand Prix of Aragón, with Xavier Simeon improving aboard the Ducati GP17 of injured team-mate Tito Rabat and with newcomer Jordi Torres finishing only a little more than a second behind the second-last rider.

Since the weekend has only just begun, both Simeon and Torres are convinced they can improve further. The Belgian rider will focus on the set-up of hisbike in order to be more consistent, whereas the Spanish rider from Rubí will work on adapting his aggressive riding style to suit and get the maximum out of his Ducati.

FP3 will take place at 9:55 h on Saturday morning, whereas the qualifying runs for the starting grid will start at 14:10 h.

“It was a very positive day despite a technical problem with one of the bikes. This aside, I am very happy with the first day because it didn’t go bad at all. My lap time was decent even though I still have to improve my rhythm and consistency a lot. This bike wears the rear tyre out quite quickly and we have to work on this aspect. I hope to make another step forward tomorrow. I will try to give it all in Q1 in order to be as close to the front as possible on the starting grid.”

“I honestly thought it would be much more difficult to ride in this category and on this bike than it really was. I also want to say that the team made it very easy for me to get used to the bike step by step. They gradually gave me more engine power, taking the traction control back bit by bit, which made the bike always a bit more difficult to tame, but also more enjoyable for me. It was an exciting day with high expectations from many sides, but I was not satisfied. I am the first one to put pressure on myself. There is no doubt that we should have done lap times around 1’50.6 or 1’50.7 and the fact that we didn’t achieve this is my fault. I am still unable to string a good lap without any small mistakes together, I still need to be more precise and consistent. I also didn’t want to take any risks because it wasn’t the day to do that. To get to the point where we are now was relatively easy, but to improve further will be tough. It’s not so much a question of bravery or riding style than to figure out how to do cover the straights in the shortest possible. Every time I want to accelerate earlier or brake later, I make mistakes. But this night, I will re-think everything and tomorrow, I hope to get a bit closer.”

El primer día del Gran Premio de Aragón ha sido bueno para los pilotos del equipo Reale Avintia Racing, con Xavier Simeon evolucionando al manillar de la Ducati GP17 del lesionado Tito Rabat y con la novedad de Jordi Torres, que en su primer día sobre la GP16 de Simeon, ha finalizado a poco más de un segundo del penúltimo.

Pero el fin de semana no ha hecho más que comenzar y tanto Simeon como Torres esperan seguir avanzando. El belga tiene que trabajar más en la puesta a punto de la moto para ser más constante, mientras que el piloto de Rubí, debe cambiar su estilo agresivo para sacar el máximo partido de su Ducati.

Mañana a las 9:55h tendrá lugar la FP3, mientras que los entrenamientos cronometrados para decidir los puestos de parrilla, darán comienzo a las 14:10h.

“Ha sido un día muy positivo, aunque hemos tenido un problema técnico con una moto. Pero aparte de esto, estoy contento con el primer día porque no ha ido nada mal. El tiempo ha sido decente, aunque nos falta mucho para mejorar el ritmo y ser más constantes. La moto consume mucho el neumático trasero y tenemos que trabajar para mejorar en este aspecto. Mañana espero dar un paso hacia delante y darlo todo en el Q1, para salir lo más arriba posible en la parrilla”.

“La verdad que me lo imaginaba mucho más difícil, mucho más complicado de lo que realmente ha sido. También debo decir que el equipo me lo ha puesto todo muy fácil y me han ayudado muchísimo para acostumbrarme a la moto gradualmente. Me han ido poniendo más potencia, quitando control de tracción y, poco a poco, se ha ido convirtiendo en una moto más complicada, pero a la vez más me gustaba. Después de un día como hoy, que ha sido positivo porque había bastante expectativa, no estoy contento del todo. Yo soy el primero que se presiona y tengo claro que podríamos haber terminado rodando en 1’50.6 o 1’50.7, pero si no lo hemos conseguido, ha sido por mi culpa. Todavía no soy capaz de hacer todo bien en una vuelta, ser preciso y constante. No he querido tomar riesgos porque tampoco era el día. Llegar aquí es relativamente fácil, ahora es cuando cuesta más mejorar. Y no es cuestión de echarle más valor ni nada por el estilo, lo que hay que entender es cómo hacer las rectas en el menor tiempo posible. Cada vez que quiero frenar más tarde o acelerar antes, me equivoco. Pero esta noche haré los deberes y mañana espero estar un poco más cerca”.

Jordi Torres se unirá al equipo Reale Avintia Racing este fin de semana en el Gran Premio de Aragón. El piloto catalán llevará la Ducati GP16 de Xavier Simeon, mientras que el belga disputará su segunda carrera sobre la moto del lesionado Tito Rabat.

Torres es un viejo conocido en el paddock de MotoGP, no en vano disputó varias temporadas en la categoría de Moto2 de 2010 a 2014, logrando varios podios y la victoria en Sachsenring 2013. Dos años después decidió probar suerte en el Campeonato del Mundo de Superbike donde en su primera temporada estuvo siempre entre los cinco primeros y sumó varios podios y una victoria en la última carrera de la temporada en Qatar. Tras varias temporadas en WSBK, actualmente compite con MV Agusta.

El viernes en Aragón, será la primera vez que Torres se suba en una MotoGP, un reto que está dispuesto a afrontar este fin de semana y para el que se siente preparado.

El piloto de Rubí correrá para el equipo Reale Avintia en MotorLand y, en las carreras que los doctores del Hospital Unversitari Dexeus, consideren necesarias para que Rabat pueda recuperarse al 100% de la desafortunada lesión en su pierna derecha.

“Lo primero de todo es agradecer al equipo la oportunidad que me han brindado. Ahora mismo estoy entre emocionado y aterrorizado, pero siempre es un desafío poder probar una moto de tanto calibre como es una MotoGP. Será un experiencia única que un día podré contar a mis nietos. Ahora en serio, tengo muchas ganas de probar la moto y ver cómo evoluciono. Sé que el campeonato tiene un nivel altísimo y en un fin de semana es muy difícil asimilarlo todo, pero intentaré aprender lo máximo posible y aprovechar mi experiencia. Creo que es algo positivo, conozco de sobra al equipo y yo intentaré poner todo de mi parte, a partir de ahí, a ver lo que sale. Es más difícil de lo que todos pensamos, pero voy con una actitud positiva y con ganas de sacar lo mejor posible de esta oportunidad. También quiero dar las gracias a mi mánager por su trabajo y a MV Agusta por darme permiso para estar en Aragón. De momento es una carrera, pero podrían ser dos. Sobre todo quiero desear a Tito una pronta recuperación porque no se merece el accidente que tuvo, pero sé que volverá rápido, porque es un luchador”.

Jordi Torres will join the Reale Avintia Racing team this weekend at the Aragon Grand Prix. The Catalan rider will jump on Xavier Simeon’s GP16, while the Belgian rider will enjoy his second race on injured Tito Rabat’s Ducati.
Torres is not a newcomer in the MotoGP paddock, as he raced in the Moto2 class from 2010 to 2014 with some success. He has several podiums in the intermediate class and he won the race in Sachsenring 2013. Two years later he decided to try in the World Superbike Championship and in his first season he was always in the top five and finished in the podium in several races. He got his first victory in the last race of the season in Qatar. He currently competes with MV Agusta in his fourth WSBK season.
On Friday in Aragon, it will be the first time that Torres gets on a MotoGP bike, and this is challenge he is ready to face this weekend and he is looking forward to start.

It’s more difficult than the people think, but I’m going with a positive attitude and looking forward to get the best out of this opportunity.
