Rain has been once again the main concern during the Japanese Grand Prix qualifying sessions today at Motegi. Although the showers had eased compared to Friday, all free and qualifying session were held in wet conditions. Reale Avintia Racing riders Loris Baz and Héctor Barbera worked very hard to improve their pace and both managed to do so.

Loris Baz will start tomorrow’s 24-lap-race from the fifth row of the grid alongside Maverick Viñales and Cal Crutchlow. The Frenchman fought until the last minutes to get in Q2, but he missed it by just 0.018s. Still, Baz is happier than yesterday and hopes to be battling for a good position in the race tomorrow.

Hector Barbera will start one row behind his teammate. Even though the Spaniard doesn’t have the best feeling in wet conditions, he expects to make another step during tomorrow’s warm-up session and to get a good result on the race.

“It’s a real shame to miss Q2 by such a small margin and I’m disappointed, because I made two little mistakes on my best lap. But if we consider how we were during the whole weekend, far from our real pace in the wet and without a good feeling, my grid position is not so bad. It’s strange because in wet conditions, Hector and myself are normally always in the top ten, but at this track nothing seems to work. We tried many things over the weekend, but couldn’t make a significant step. I was quite angry this morning after FP3, but then in FP4 we found a better way. The conditions for Q1 weren’t very good, because the track was almost dry except for two corners. That made it impossible to go out with slick tyres, but at the same time, the rain tyres overheated in these conditions.”

“It’s been a difficult weekend. Usually, both Loris and I are fast in wet conditions, but here we were struggling to go faster. My problem is that when I enter the turn, the rear slides a lot and the bike wants to highside me. We are working to solve this problem and we have improved a lot compared to yesterday. We shiftet more weight towards the front of the bike and that gives me more confidence. But even though, the warm-up tomorrow will be crucial because we still need to improve my race pace. It seems that the race will be wet. We start from the sixth row behind Viñales and he will push to catch the front group, so the goal will be to get out there, give my best and maybe stick with him for a while.”

La lluvia ha vuelto a ser protagonista en los entrenamientos cronometrados para el Gran Premio de Japón hoy en Motegi. Aunque ha caído con menor intensidad que durante el primer día, los entrenamientos libres y clasificatorios se han disputado con el asfalto mojado. Los pilotos del equipo Reale Avintia Racing, Loris Baz y Héctor Barberá, han trabajado duro para mejorar y ambos lo han hecho.

Loris Baz saldrá desde la quinta línea de la parrilla junto con Maverick Viñales y Cal Crutchlow. El francés ha peleado hasta el último momento por entrar en la Q2, pero al final se ha quedado fuera por tan solo 18 milésimas de segundo. Aun así está mucho más contento que el primer día y mañana espera poder dar guerra en la carrera.

El español Héctor Barberá saldrá una línea más atrás y aunque sigue sin tener muy buenas sensaciones en mojado, mañana espera dar otro paso en el warm-up para poder luchar en carrera por un buen resultado.

“Da rabia quedarse fuera de la Q2 por tan poco, sobre todo porque he cometido un par de errores en esa vuelta. Pero si miramos lo mal que había ido el fin de semana y que hemos estado muy lejos de tener buenas sensaciones y buen ritmo, la posición en la parrilla no está tan mal. Es raro, porque en estas condiciones tanto Héctor como yo siempre hemos estado entre los diez más rápidos, pero aquí no funciona nada. Hemos probado un montón de cosas y nada iba. Esta mañana me he enfadado un poco, pero en FP4 parece que hemos encontrado el camino y ha ido mejor. Las condiciones en la Q1 no han sido las mejores, porque solo faltaban por secarse un par de curvas para salir con slicks y en estas condiciones los neumáticos de agua se calientan mucho. Mañana veremos hasta dónde podemos llegar”.

“Está siendo un fin de semana complicado porque en lluvia siempre vamos rápido tanto Loris como yo, pero aquí nos está costando mucho. Yo personalmente tengo un problema y es que cuando voy a entrar en la curva la moto parece que se va cruzar de atrás y sacarme por orejas. Estamos trabajando para resolverlo y hemos mejorado bastante con respecto a ayer. Hemos cargado más peso en la parte delantera de la moto y eso me da más confianza, pero mañana el warm-up será muy importante para mejorar el ritmo de carrera. Parece que mañana la carrera será en agua, salimos en la sexta línea y delante tenemos a un piloto como Viñales que seguro irá hacia arriba, así que el objetivo será salir bien y dar el máximo”.

Reale Avintia Racing riders Loris Baz and Hector Barbera finished 20^th and 21^st on the first day of practice at the Twin Ring Motegi. The opening day was difficult because of the rain that came down on the Japanese venue during the whole day, and the forecast for the rest of the weekend is no different. That’s why it was especially important today to get the best feeling with the bike and the Michelin wet tyres.

This morning, Hector Barbera set the pace in the first few minutes, but then he dropped back in the standings as he was not able to improve his lap times. Things went the opposite way for Loris Baz, with the French rider struggling to get a good feeling during the morning session, but improving his pace in the afternoon. Only when he put fresh tyres in, the feeling took a turn to the worse again.

Tomorrow, both riders from Reale Avintia will be back on track with just one goal: the top ten in FP3. It will be tough, but both riders are confident about their Ducati’s performance in wet conditions.

“It was a difficult first day because although we like to ride in these rainy conditions, everything has been more difficult than normal. This morning, we haven’t found the right direction with the set up of the bike. Then in the FP2, I decided to go out with the same set of tyres from this morning and I felt it quite well, I had almost the same rhythm as the others with new rubber. But when I came in to get a new set of tyres, nothing worked the way it did before. We have to thoroughly check the bike and also check the tyres together with Michelin, because there simply was no grip. Coming in again for another tyre change was no option, because I knew that the number of tyres for the whole weekend is limited. Tomorrow we will try to enter Q2. We don’t have the same feeling as in Misano, but we will fight”.

“The first day has been quite difficult, but in the morning the feeling was not bad, we got through the whole session with the same tyres. This afternoon we decided to make the bike harder, trying to improve my feeling, but the result was much worse. I was stiffer on the bike and I had a hard time making it turn. We tried to make it a little softer with the preload, but it wasn’t any better. We’ll go back to the base set up tomorrow and we will try to fight for a good position on the grid for Sunday’s race. The good thing is that we will have rain for the whole weekend and we can work more on the wet set-up for the race.”

Els pilots de l’equip Reale Avintia Racing, Loris Baz i Héctor Barberá han acabat 20è i 21è el primer dia d’entrenaments lliures al circuit de Motegi. El primer dia la pluja ha fet acte de presència al traçat japonès i està previst que el mal temps continuï durant la resta del cap de setmana. Per tant era important aprofitar bé el primer dia per agafar confiança amb la moto i amb els pneumàtics Michelin d’aigua.

En el primer lliure del matí Héctor Barberá ha començat marcant el ritme, però després ha anat caient en la classificació al no poder millorar els seus registres. Just al contrari ha succeït amb Loris Baz, ja que el francès ha aconseguit millorar considerablement del matí a la tarda. Però quan ha canviat pneumàtics no ha aconseguit tenir les mateixes sensacions.

Demà els dos pilots de Reale Avintia sortiran a pista amb l’objectiu d’entrar en el top deu al FP3. Serà complicat, però tots dos confien a poder treure el millor de les seves Ducati en aquestes condicions tant complicades.

“Ha estat un primer dia complicat, perquè encara que ens agrada rodar en aquestes condicions de pluja, tot ha estat més difícil del normal. Aquest matí no ha anat malament al principi, però no hem trobat la direcció correcta amb la posada a punt. Després al FP2 he decidit sortir amb el pneumàtic d’aquest matí i m’he trobat força bé, tenia gairebé el mateix ritme que els altres amb goma nova. Però quan he parat per muntar un pneumàtic nou res ha funcionat igual. Hem de revisar bé la moto i revisar amb Michelin el pneumàtic perquè no tenia res de ‘grip’. Tampoc podia entrar a canviar perquè sabia que anem justos de pneumàtics per a tot el cap de setmana. Demà tractarem d’entrar a la Q2, no tenim el mateix ‘feeling ‘que a Misano, però lluitarem “.

“El primer dia ha estat força difícil. Al matí les sensacions no han estat dolentes, però hem aguantat tota la sessió amb el mateix pneumàtic fins al final. Aquesta tarda hem decidit fer la moto més dura per veure si millorava encara més el ‘ feeling ‘però el resultat ha estat molt pitjor. Anava més rígid damunt de la moto i em costava molt fer-la girar. He volgut fer-la una mica més tova amb la precàrrega, però no ha estat millor. Demà tornarem a la posada a punt base i tractarem de lluitar per un bon lloc a la graella per al diumenge. El millor és que donen pluja per tot el cap de setmana i podrem treballar més en la moto per a la carrer”.

Los pilotos del equipo Reale Avintia Racing, Loris Baz y Héctor Barberá han terminado 20º y 21º el primer día de entrenamientos libres en el circuito de Motegi. El primer día la lluvia ha hecho acto de presencia en el trazado japonés y está previsto que el mal tiempo continúe durante el resto del fin de semana. Por lo tanto era importante aprovechar bien el primer día para coger confianza con la moto y con los neumáticos Michelin de agua.

En el primer libre de la mañana Héctor Barberá ha comenzado marcando el ritmo, pero después ha ido cayendo en la clasificación al no poder mejorar sus registros. Justo al contrario ha sucedido con Loris Baz, ya que el francés ha logrado mejorar considerablemente de la mañana a la tarde. Pero cuando ha cambiado neumáticos no ha conseguido tener las mismas sensaciones.

Mañana los dos pilotos de Reale Avintia saldrán a pista con el objetivo de entrar en el top diez en el FP3. Será complicado, pero ambos confían en poder sacar lo mejor de sus Ducati en estas condiciones tan complicadas.

“Ha sido un primer día complicado, porque aunque nos gusta rodar en estas condiciones de lluvia, todo ha sido más difícil de lo normal. Esta mañana no ha ido mal al principio, pero no hemos encontrado la dirección correcta con la puesta a punto. Después en el FP2 he decidido salir con el neumático de esta mañana y me he encontrado bastante bien, tenía casi el mismo ritmo que los demás con goma nueva. Pero cuando he parado para montar un neumático nuevo nada ha funcionado igual. Tenemos que revisar bien la moto y revisar con Michelin el neumático porque no tenía nada de ‘grip’. Tampoco podía entrar a cambiar porque sabía que vamos justos de neumáticos para todo el fin de semana. Mañana trataremos de entrar en la Q2, no tenemos el mismo ‘feeling’ que en Misano, pero lucharemos”.

“El primer día ha sido bastante difícil. Por la mañana las sensaciones no han sido malas, pero hemos aguantado toda la sesión con el mismo neumático hasta el final. Esta tarde hemos decidido hacer la moto más dura para ver si mejoraba aún más el ‘feeling’ pero el resultado ha sido mucho peor. Iba más rígido encima de la moto y me costaba mucho hacerla girar. He querido hacerla un poco más blanda con la precarga, pero no ha sido mejor. Mañana volveremos a la puesta a punto base y trataremos de luchar por un buen puesto en la parrilla para el domingo. Lo bueno es que dan lluvia para todo el fin de semana y podremos trabajar más en la moto para la carrera”.

L’equip Reale Avintia Racing hi ha s ́ha posat de camí a Motegi per disputar la 15a prova del Campionat del Món de MotoGP i la primera de tres carreres consecutives que tindran lloc al Japó, Austràlia i Malàisia.

Héctor Barberá i Loris Baz afronten el final del campionat amb molta il·lusió i amb el ferm objectiu d’aconseguir un bon resultat amb el qual acomiadar-se de la categoria de MotoGP i del Reale Avintia Racing. Motegi serà la seva primera oportunitat i tots dos confien a poder treure partit de la gran potència del motor V4 de les seves Ducati Desmosedici GP.

La climatologia tornarà a ser clau, amb pluges previstes per al cap de setmana al circuit japonès. Encara que això pot venir bé a Barberá i Baz, que han demostrat en més d’una ocasió la seva habilitat per anar de pressa en condicions de mullat.

“A Aragó no van anar bé les coses, però començament la gira asiàtica amb moltes ganes i molt motivat. Només em queden quatre carreres en MotoGP i vull gaudir-les al màxim, però per això hem de treballar bé amb la moto per treure-li tot el potencial. Crec que en tenir clar que l’any que ve seré a Moto2, aquestes últimes carreres amb el meu equip poden anar millor, perquè ja no tinc la pressió de fer-ho bé, si o si. Motegi és un circuit que sempre se m’ha donat bé i compta amb moltes acceleracions fortes, que són el punt fort de la nostra moto. Estic desitjant començar”.

“Han estat tres setmanes en què he estat tranquil, però alhora he estat treballant per buscar les millors opcions per a l’any que ve en Superbike. Però ara toca centrar-se en el que queda de campionat a MotoGP començant per aquestes tres carreres consecutives que tenim al Japó, Austràlia i Malàisia. El meu objectiu és millorar tot el que puguem per tornar a puntuar, cosa que no hem aconseguit en les dues últimes carreres. Motegi crec que és un circuit que ens pot anar força bé per les característiques de la nostra moto. Veurem com està el temps però arribo amb confiança a poder fer-ho bé”.

The Reale Avintia Racing team heads to the Twin Ring Motegi circuit for the 15^th round of the 2017 MotoGP World Championship, which will be the first of three races on consecutive weekends in Japan, Australia and Malaysia.

Hector Barbera and Loris Baz confront the last part of the championship eager to get a great result before leaving the MotoGP class at the end of the season. Both are determined to get the best out of the powerful V4 engines of their Ducati Demosedici GP.

The weather will be once again the main concern for riders and teams as rain is forecasted for the three days at the Japanese venue. However, this could be to the advantage of Reale Avintia Racing riders Barbera and Baz, as they have shown their master skills in wet conditions in the past.

“The weekend In Aragon was not the best and nothing went as planned, but I head to the triple with high motivation and I’m looking forward to a good result. I only have four races in MotoGP left and I want to enjoy all of them, but before having fun, we first have to work hard to get the maximum from the bike. I think that once I decided my future will be in Moto2, these last few races with my team will be better. I left all the pressure to get results behind and I’m more relaxed now, so everything will flow. Motegi had been one of the best circuits for me in the past and it features many hard braking areas, one of the strongest points of the Ducati. I’m looking forward to start the weekend!”

“I’ve been quite busy in the last three weeks working towards to get the best options in World Superbike for next year, but I also had some time to relax and train. But now we have to stay focussed for the last part of the season in MotoGP and in Motegi we start the first of three important races in Japan, Australia and Malaysia. My goal will be scoring points, as we missed our chances in the last two rounds. I think Motegi will suit the characteristics of our bike quite well. It’s a question mark what the weather will be like, but nevertheless, I’m confident for the upcoming races.”

El equipo Reale Avintia Racing ya ha puesto rumbo a Motegi para disputar la 15ª prueba del Campeonato del Mundo de MotoGP y la primera de tres carreras consecutivas que tendrán lugar en Japón, Australia y Malasia.

Héctor Barberá y Loris Baz afrontan el final del campeonato con mucha ilusión y con el firme objetivo de lograr un buen resultado con el que despedirse de la categoría de MotoGP y del Reale Avintia Racing. Motegi será su primera oportunidad y ambos confían en poder sacar partido de la gran potencia del motor V4 de sus Ducati Desmosedici GP.

La climatología volverá a ser clave, con lluvias previstas para el fin de semana en el circuito japonés. Aunque eso puede venir bien a Barberá y Baz, quienes han demostrado en más de una ocasión su habilidad para ir deprisa en condiciones de mojado.

“En Aragón no fueron bien las cosas, pero comienzo la gira asiática con muchas ganas y muy motivado. Solo me quedan cuatro carreras en MotoGP y quiero disfrutarlas al máximo, pero para eso tenemos que trabajar bien con la moto para sacarle todo el potencial. Creo que al tener claro que el año que viene estaré en Moto2, estas últimas carreras con mi equipo pueden ir mejor, porque ya no tengo la presión de hacerlo bien, sí o sí. Motegi es un circuito que siempre se me ha dado bien y cuenta con muchas aceleraciones fuertes, que son el punto fuerte de nuestra moto. Estoy deseando empezar”.

“Han sido tres semanas en las que he estado tranquilo, pero a la vez he estado trabajando para buscar las mejores opciones para el año que viene en Superbike. Pero ahora toca centrarse en lo que queda de campeonato en MotoGP empezando por estas tres carreras consecutivas que tenemos en Japón, Australia y Malasia. Mi objetivo es mejorar todo lo que podamos para volver a puntuar, algo que no hemos conseguido en las dos últimas carreras. Motegi creo que es un circuito que nos puede ir bastante bien por las características de nuestra moto. Veremos cómo está el tiempo pero llego con confianza en poder hacerlo bien”.

Even though they were starting from the back of the grid, Reale Avintia Racing riders Hector Barbera and Loris Baz were confident ahead of the race at Aragón. Both were keen to recover and score some championship points. But wet track conditions during free practice on Friday meant reduced time to set up their Ducati Desmosedici for the race, and today turned out to be a difficult challenge for both riders.

In the morning’s warm-up session, Spaniard Hector Barbera finished seventh fastest and was confident about his race pace, but lost some places during the first few laps and then was too conservative saving tyres for the last part of the race. When he started to push, it was too late and he finished the race in 18^th position.

Loris Baz had a great start from the sixth row of the grid and recovered some positions, but when tyre grip started to drop, he lost many places. He won the battle with Sam Lowes on the last lap, but finished the race 21^st and very far from the top.

In three weeks, the MotoGP World Championship resumes at the Twin Ring Motegi, which will be the first race of the triple in Japan, Australia and Malaysia on consecutive weekends.

“This was a strange race because of tyre durability. On the first few laps I was conservative, I was thinking that would be a race like Barcelona were everybody starts strong and then slows down by two seconds per lap on the last laps. I tried to safe my tyres, but then I realized that everybody was using the same strategy, but without decreasing their pace. I am still struggling with the same problems with the bike. When I open the throttle, I have chatter and I can’t feel the limit. I’m only happy about one thing, which is that my pace was really fast on the fourth lap. I hope to feel better in Japan, a track that suits this bike more.”

“It was a tough race and really difficult to manage; everything we tried during the weekend didn’t work and we were not able to improve. We always had the same issues, I lost grip everywhere. I had a good start and I was in the same group with Pol (Espargaró). I tried my best to stay with them, but it was impossible. I started to lose positions and staying on the bike was really tough. It’s a shame because I really wanted to score some points today, there are only four races left and I want to get the best out of them. Today was a disaster from the beginning to the end. We’ll see if things change for Japan where the bike should work better. I just want to enjoy riding these last races in MotoGP with my team.”
