Reale Avintia Racing riders Hector Barbera and Loris Baz head to Germany for the ninth round of the 2017 MotoGP World Championship. With 3.7km of length, the Sachsenring is the shortest track in the calendar and also the slowest in terms of average speed. But its nature with a twisty and tight first sector and a fast final part of the circuit always produces close battles.

Barbera has good memories from last year when he qualified for the front row in second place, and also from the race when he fought for the podium in rain conditions. But he swapped bikes too late losing his podium chances and finishing the race in ninth place. Nonetheless he is looking forward to this weekend with confidence, as he loves the track.

The German circuit is not in the favourites list for his teammate Baz but, following his good performance last time in Assen, he is looking forward to repeat this good result and to finish the first half of the season in a positive mood.

“The weekend in Assen was not so good for us and that’s why I’m looking forward to get the German weekend started. I love the track. Last year I started the race from the front row of the grid and I did a good race on Sunday. Assen has been always difficult for me, but Sachsenring is one of the best circuits for my riding style and I’m confident to achieve a good result. This will be important after such a difficult first half of the season. It’s crucial to leave Germany with positive feelings so we can build up our confidence for the second part of the championship.”

“I’m looking forward to start the weekend at the Sachsenring following the result from last Sunday in Assen. I don’t like the circuit too much, I never felt great there and last year I raced with an injury. But we have some ideas to make the bike work and it’s a left-hand circuit, which should be good for my arm I want to finish the first half of the season with another strong result. Straight after this race, I will undergo surgery to fix the problems in my right arm.”

Les previsions de pluja s’han complert avui a Assen i totes les sessions lliures i cronometrades s’han disputat en mullat. Al matí els pilots de Reale Avintia Racing, Héctor Barberá i Loris Baz han acabat sisè i novè, respectivament, de manera que les expectatives de l’equip per a la Q1 eren bastant altes.

A la tarda les bones sensacions que han tingut Barberá i Baz han desaparegut i la manca d’adherència en el pneumàtic posterior no els ha permès rendir com al matí. Tot i així Baz ho ha donat tot i ha lluitat fins a l’última volta per passar el tall a la Q2. Al final no ha pogut ser i ha acabat quart, de manera que demà sortirà a la cursa 14è des de la cinquena línia de la graella.

Barberá no ha pogut acostar-se a la seva ritme del FP3 i demà sortirà 20è des de la penúltima línia, encara que tots dos confien a poder fer una bona carrera, plogui o no.

“Ha faltat molt poc per passar a la Q2. Aquest matí he tingut molt bones sensacions en mullat però la tarda tot i que he anat bé, les sensacions han estat diferents. Encara que he caigut aquest matí el ‘grip’ era molt bo, però durant la Q1 no tenia res d’adherència darrere i sobretot en l’última part del circuit ha estat complicat. Ho he intentat fins al final, he estat sempre primer, segon, tercer, quart … Sabia que calia donar una última volta molt bona i així ha estat fins al T3. Gairebé caic deu vegades en l’última volta i, tot i que he millorat, no ha estat prou. La posició no és dolenta i veurem què passa demà amb la pluja. Crec que estem bé per a qualsevol condició i per poder fer una bona cursa. ”

“Ha estat una sessió classificatòria força complicada. Aquest matí he acabat sisè i el ‘feeling’ era molt bo. Però aquesta tarda ha canviat tot, no hi havia ‘grip’ darrere i semblava que anava a perdre la moto a cada corba. Així ha estat impossible estrènyer i no he pogut rodar com al matí. En només 15 minuts no tens temps d’aturar i al final vam sortir bastant enrere. Les condicions de la pista eren diferents i m’hauria d’haver adaptat millor. Sincerament no sé què prefereixo per demà, si pluja o sec. Aquest matí ha anat molt bé, però molt mal a la tarda. Ahir vaig anar ràpid al matí i no tant a la tarda. Caldrà fer-ho bé en la condició que ens toqui.”

El piloto del equipo Reale Avintia Racing, Loris Baz, ha terminado octavo en el Gran Premio de Holanda disputado hoy en el mítico circuito de Assen. El piloto francés de 24 años salía desde la 14ª posición en la parrilla y tras unas primeras vueltas en las que se ha colocado en los puntos, ha conseguido remontar hasta llegar a la séptima posición cuando ha aparecido la lluvia. En la última vuelta ha protagonizado una bonita batalla con el piloto de Suzuki, Andrea Iannone, y aunque le ha ganado la partida, no contaba con su compañero de marca en Ducati, Karel Abraham, quien ha sacado partido en la última vuelta superando a Iannone y Baz. Pero este octavo puesto es un gran resultado en un fin de semana complicado para el piloto de Reale Avintia Racing.

Su compañero Héctor Barberá ha remontado posiciones tras salir desde la 20ª posición de la parrilla y poco a poco estaba llegando al grupo de Baz, pero cuando la lluvia ha hecho acto de presencia, ha arriesgado cambiando de moto y completando las últimas seis vueltas con neumáticos de agua. La apuesta no le ha salido bien y ha terminado 16º y fuera de los puntos.

El Campeonato del Mundo de MotoGP viaja ahora a Sachsenring donde tendrá lugar el Gran Premio de Alemania el próximo fin de semana.

“Hemos tenido suerte con la lluvia porque en seco no tenía mucha confianza con la moto y el brazo derecho me ha empezado a doler después de solo dos vueltas. No tenía sensaciones con la parte delantera de la moto y he decidido mantener mi ritmo porque había un grupo enorme justo detrás de mí. Cuando he visto caer un poco de agua he seguido atacando para mantener las gomas en temperatura y no tener que entrar a cambiar de moto. La estrategia ha ido bien y he conseguido terminar octavo. En la última vuelta me ha pasado Iannone, le he vuelto a pasar otra vez por dentro, pero no sabía que Abraham estaba detrás y me ha adelantado. Pero bueno, séptimo u octavo no cambia tanto, lo importante es estar entre los diez mejores y llegar motivados a Alemania para terminar la primera parte de la temporada.”

“La apuesta hoy me ha salido mal. Ha comenzado a llover un poco cuando faltaban pocas vueltas y aquí lo habitual es que cuando empieza a llover lo haga con fuerza, por eso he pensado que si entraba antes podría sacar ventaja. He visto que entraba Zarco y he arriesgado. A veces te sale bien y otras mal, y hoy ha sido lo segundo. En este tipo de carreras siempre he sido conservador aguantando mucho tiempo en pista y habitualmente me había salido mal. Hoy he sido demasiado arriesgado y ha sido un desastre. Hemos tenido las peores condiciones que se podían dar en la carrera, pero también hemos aprendido una lección para las próxima vez que tengamos una carrera así.”

The weather forecast was correct and the MotoGP action took place on a wet track today at Assen during the free and the qualifying sessions. In the morning, Reale Avintia Racing riders Hector Barbera and Loris Baz finished sixth and ninth, which boosted the team’s expectations ahead of Q1.

But in the afternoon, both riders completely lost the good feelings from the morning sessions. Both suffered with a lack of rear grip and were not able to match their morning’s pace. Nevertheless, Baz gave his best until the last lap, trying to get in Q2. It was not possible and he was fourth at the end of Q1. Tomorrow he will start the race from 14^th place on the fifth row of the grid.

Barbera was far from his pace in FP3 and he will start the race from the penultimate row of the grid. Both riders are still confident for the race and they don’t care if it takes place in dry or wet conditions.

“We were close to make it through to Q2! This morning I had a great feeling in wet conditions, but this afternoon, the feeling was different and riding was more difficult. This morning I crashed, but the grip was fantastic, unlike in Q1 where I had no grip at all and where riding was very tricks in the last sector of the circuit. I was in the top three or four the whole session and I tried my best until the final lap…I knew that I had to put it all together for a perfect lap and it was going well until T3. I was close to crashing about ten times on my last lap and, although I improved my pace, it was not enough. Still, my grid position is not so bad. It will be interesting to see what the weather will be like tomorrow. I think that we can be strong in any condition and get a good result in the race.”

“Qualifying was really difficult. This morning I finished sixth and my feeling was great. But this afternoon it was like riding on a different track, we had no rear grip and I felt like I was going to crash in every single turn. With this feeling it was impossible to push and I was not able to be fast like in the morning. In just 15 minutes you can´t stop to change the set-up, and therefore we will start from the rear of the grid tomorrow. The conditions changed and I have to find a way to adapt better when this happens. Sincerely I don’t know what conditions would be best for us tomorrow. This morning I was fast in the rain, but it was a disaster in the afternoon. Yesterday I was okay in the morning and didn’t do too well in the afternoon…all I know is that we have to give our best in any condition.”

Las previsiones de lluvia se han cumplido hoy en Assen y todas las sesiones libres y cronometradas se han disputado en mojado. Por la mañana los pilotos de Reale Avintia Racing, Héctor Barberá y Loris Baz han terminado sexto y noveno, respectivamente, por lo que las expectativas del equipo para la Q1 eran bastante altas.

Por la tarde las buenas sensaciones que han tenido Barberá y Baz han desaparecido y la falta de agarre en el neumático posterior no les ha permitido rendir como por la mañana. Aun así Baz lo ha dado todo y ha luchado hasta la última vuelta para pasar el corte a la Q2. Al final no ha podido ser y ha terminado cuarto, con lo que mañana saldrá a la carrera 14º desde la quinta línea de la parrilla.

Barberá no ha podido acercarse a su ritmo del FP3 y mañana saldrá 20º desde la penúltima línea, aunque ambos confían en poder hacer una buena carrera, llueva o no.

“Ha faltado muy poco para pasar a la Q2. Esta mañana he tenido muy buenas sensaciones en mojado pero la tarde aunque he ido bien, las sensaciones han sido diferentes. Aunque he caído esta mañana el ‘grip’ era muy bueno, pero durante la Q1 no tenía nada de agarre detrás y sobre todo en la última parte del circuito ha sido complicado. Lo he intentado hasta el final, he estado siempre primero, segundo, tercero, cuarto… Sabía que había que dar una última vuelta muy buena y así ha sido hasta el T3. Casi me caigo diez veces en la última vuelta y, aunque he mejorado, no ha sido bastante. La posición no es mala y veremos qué pasa mañana con la lluvia. Creo que estamos bien para cualquier condición y hacer una buena carrera.”

“Ha sido una sesión clasificatoria bastante complicada. Esta mañana he terminado sexto y el ‘feeling’ era muy bueno. Pero esta tarde ha cambiado todo, no había ‘grip’ detrás y parecía que iba a perder la moto en cada curva. Así ha sido imposible apretar y no he podido rodar como por la mañana. En solo 15 minutos no tienes tiempo de parar y al final salimos bastante atrás. Las condiciones de la pista eran diferentes y debía haberme adaptado mejor. Sinceramente no sé qué prefiero para mañana, si lluvia o seco. Esta mañana ha ido muy bien, pero muy mal por la tarde. Ayer fui rápido por la mañana y no tanto por la tarde. Habrá que hacerlo bien en la condición que nos toque.”

Els pilots de Reale Avintia Racing, Loris Baz i Héctor Barberá han acabat el primer dia d’entrenaments lliures per al Gran Premi d’Holanda en 16a i 18a posició, respectivament. Tots dos pilots han treballat dur amb els seus equips per afinar al màxim la posada a punt de les seves Ducati. Assen és un circuit

ràpid i enllaçat en el qual les frenades no són molt forts, per tant cal carregar més pes en el pneumàtic davanter per aprofitar tot el seu potencial. En aquest punt s’han concentrat tant Baz com Barberá i, tot i que mirant la taula de temps la posició no és la millor, les diferències amb els primer no són tan grans i tot està molt atapeït.

La previsió climatològica per demà és de pluja. Si finalment es confirma els pilots de Reale Avintia esperen poder lluitar per millorar la seva posició, en unes condicions que habitualment han estat favorables per a ells i les seves Ducati Desmosedici.

“Al matí ha estat complicat perquè no tenia bones sensacions amb la moto. Però hem canviat algunes coses i aquesta tarda ha anat molt millor. Amb aquests nous pneumàtics cal carregar molt pes davant perquè funcionin, però sent tan alt no és fàcil acostumar-se, però ens ha ajudat molt per millorar. Després per buscar un temps hem muntat els compostos més tous i potser hauria anat millor amb el davanter mig. però estem a només quatre dècimes del ‘Top 10’ i no està malament. Demà sembla que plourà tot el dia, així que caldrà preparar bé la Q1 per intentar passar a la Q2 “.

“La veritat és que no hem començat el cap de setmana com ens hagués agradat i potser en aquest circuit s’accentuen una mica més els problemes. Ens segueix faltant pes a la part davantera i no és una pista on es freni molt. Si mirem els temps està tot molt ajustat, ens han faltat unes dècimes per entrar a la Q2, i potser m’ha faltat fer una bona volta, però en general crec que el ritme no ha estat dolent. Si tinc la sort que no plogui per la matí espero poder millorar el meu temps en sec. Cal millorar la moto a les frenades. Si plou la veritat és que he rodat poc amb aquesta moto en aigua, però com sempre intentaré donar el millor de mi per acabar el més amunt possible”.

Reale Avintia Racing riders Loris Baz and Hector Barbera finished the first practice day for the Netherlands Grand Prix in 16^th and 18^th place. Both riders worked hard with their crews to refine the set-up of their Ducati Desmosedici bikes for this demanding layout. Assen is a really fast and flowing track without emphasis on last-gasp braking, which allows the riders to shift the weight balance towards front of the bike in order to get the best performance from the front tyre. This was the main focus for both Baz and Barbera today and even though their progress doesn’t seem to reflect in the time sheets, they are not too far from the Top 10 as the lap times have been really close together today.

Rain is expected tomorrow and if the forecast is correct, the Reale Avintia riders see realistic chances to improve their position, because wet conditions are usually favourable for them and their Ducati Desmosedici machines.

“It was difficult in the morning because my feeling with the bike was not great. But we made several changes to the set-up for this afternoon and everything went better. With this new front tyres, you need to put more weight on the front to make them work, but with my size this is not easy to get used to. But it was clear that this change helped us to improve. At the end we mounted fresh soft tyres to try to do a fast lap, but maybe the medium front would have been a better choice. But we are just 0.4s from the Top 10 and this is not bad. It seems that tomorrow it will be raining for the whole day, so we’ll prepare everything for Q1 and try to get in Q2.”

“To be honest, this is not the way I like to start the weekend and maybe at this track we struggle more with our bike problems. We need to put more weight on the front because you don’t use the brakes so much at this track and we don’t stress the front tyre enough. If we look at the time sheets, everything is really tight and we just missed a couple of tenths to get in Q2. Maybe I failed when I went out for a fast lap, but overall my pace was quite fast. If I’m lucky tomorrow and it doesn’t rain in the morning, I might be able to improve my lap time. We have to improve the bike in the braking points. If it rains, I will to do my best to get the best possible position on the grid, although I do not have a lot of experience with this bike in wet conditions.”

Los pilotos de Reale Avintia Racing, Loris Baz y Héctor Barberá han terminado el primer día de entrenamientos libres para el Gran Premio de Holanda en 16ª y 18ª posición, respectivamente. Ambos pilotos han trabajado duro con sus equipos para afinar al máximo la puesta a punto de sus Ducati. Assen es un circuito rápido y enlazado en el que las frenadas no son muy fuertes, por lo tanto es necesario cargar más peso en el neumático delantero para aprovechar todo su potencial. En este punto se han concentrado tanto Baz como Barberá y, aunque mirando la tabla de tiempos la posición no es la mejor, las diferencias con los primeros no son tan grandes y todo está muy apretado.

La previsión climatológica para mañana es de lluvia. Si finalmente se confirma los pilotos de Reale Avintia esperan poder luchar por mejorar su posición, en unas condiciones que habitualmente han sido favorables para ellos y sus Ducati Desmosedici.

“Por la mañana ha sido complicado porque no tenía buenas sensaciones con la moto. Pero hemos cambiado algunas cosas y esta tarde ha ido mucho mejor. Con estos nuevos neumáticos hay que cargar mucho peso delante para que funcionen, pero siendo tan alto no es fácil acostumbrarse, pero nos ha ayudado mucho para mejorar. Después para buscar un tiempo hemos montado los compuestos más blandos y quizás habría ido mejor con el delantero medio. Pero estamos a solo cuatro décimas del ‘Top 10’ y no está mal. Mañana parece que lloverá todo el día, así que habrá que preparar bien la Q1 para intentar pasar a la Q2”.

“La verdad es que no hemos empezado el fin de semana como nos hubiera gustado y quizás en este circuito se acentúan un poco más los problemas. Nos sigue faltando peso en la parte delantera y no es una pista donde se frene mucho. Si miramos los tiempos está todo muy apretado, nos han faltado unas décimas para entrar en la Q2, y a lo mejor me ha faltado hacer una buena vuelta, pero en general creo que el ritmo no ha sido malo. Si tengo la suerte de que no llueva por la mañana espero poder mejorar mi tiempo en seco. Hay que mejorar la moto en las frenadas. Si llueve la verdad es que he rodado poco con esta moto en agua, pero como siempre trataré de dar lo mejor de mí para terminar lo más arriba posible”.

Després d’un cap de setmana de descans dels pilots de Reale Avintia Racing, Héctor Barberá i Loris Baz, viatjaran aquest cap de setmana al circuit d’Assen per disputar la vuitena cita del Campionat del Món de MotoGP 2017. El Gran Premi d’Holanda serà el primer de dos caps de setmana de carreres consecutius que marcaran el final de la primera part de la temporada a Alemanya. Però abans de posar rumb Sachsenring, Barberá i Baz disputaran el famós ‘Dutch TT’ a Assen aquest diumenge.

El circuit de 4,5km és un dels predilectes dels pilots de Reale Avintia i tots dos esperen estar lluitant pel ‘Top 10’ a la Catedral del Motociclisme. L’any passat la carrera va ser interrompuda per la pluja i després de 14 voltes i en la segona part a 12 voltes, Héctor Barberá va aconseguir remuntar fins al sisè lloc.

Per Loris Baz serà la seva primera vegada a Assen amb Ducati, l’any passat es va perdre la cursa per una lesió, però aquest cop arriba amb moltes ganes de lluitar per un bon resultat.

“Després del bon cap de setmana a Barcelona aquesta setmana he estat entrenant molt dur i amb més motivació que mai. Arribo a Assen amb moltes ganes de millorar el que vam fer en l’última carrera i acabar d’oblidar la primera part de la temporada amb un altre gran resultat. El circuit m’agrada molt i haurem de treballar dur des del divendres per treure el màxim partit dels pneumàtics i triar bé els de carrera. Serà important fer-ho bé a Assen i a Alemanya per acabar la primera part de la temporada amb bon gust de boca. ”

“Estic content d’anar a Assen perquè és un circuit que m’encanta. El cap de setmana de descans ha vingut bé perquè estava una mica cansat després de Mugello i Barcelona. Però a més de descansar he entrenat bé per arribar fort a un dels meus circuits predilectes. L’any passat estava lesionat i no vaig poder córrer allà, així que estic desitjant poder rodar amb la meva Ducati. S’haurà de veure com va el cap de setmana perquè, tot i que les previsions no són dolentes, a Assen sempre pot aparèixer la pluja. També caldrà treballar per triar bé els pneumàtics. L’important és que vaig amb ganes d’acabar bé la primera meitat de la temporada amb les dues properes carreres.”

After a break of ten days, Reale Avintia Racing riders Hector Barbera and Loris Baz head to the historic circuit of Assen this weekend for the eighth round of the 2017 MotoGP World Championship. The Dutch Grand Prix is the first of two consecutive race weekends that will mark the end of the first half of the season in Germany. But before heading to Sachsenring, Barbera and Baz will take part in the famous ‘Dutch TT’ at Assen on Sunday.

The 4.5km circuit is one of the favorites of the Reale Avintia riders and both hope to be fighting for a ‘Top 10’ result in the “Cathedral of Motorcycling”. Last year, the race was interrupted due to rain showers after 14 laps and in the second 12-lap-race, Hector Barbera managed to secure sixth place.

For Loris Baz, this will be his first time in Assen with Ducati. Last year, he did not take part in the race due to an injury, but now he is back eager to fight for a good result.

“After the good weekend in Barcelona, I have been training very hard and with more motivation than ever. I come to Assen looking forward to improve what we did in the last race and to leave the first part of the season behind with a great result. I like the circuit and we have to work hard from Friday to get the most out of the tyres and to choose the right ones for the race on Sunday. It will be important to do well in Assen and in Germany so we can say good-bye to the first part of the season with good feelings.”

“I am happy to go to Assen because it’s a circuit that I love. I was a bit tired after Mugello and Barcelona, so it was great to have a weekend to rest and re-charge the batteries. I’ve also been training hard, because I want to be strong for the race on one of my favorite circuits. Last year I was injured and I couldn’t race. Now, I’m even keener to ride my Ducati at Assen. We will have to wait and see how the weather develops, because even though the forecast is not bad, it can always rain at Assen. I want to finish the first half of the season in a positive mood, so I’ll give my best in the next two races.”
